Nancy, thanks so much for the update on Carol (foxie). Let her know we're thinking of her and to keep us posted! She PM'd me that the house is okay but no power. They interviewed a woman from her hometown in NJ on the national news and it was a mess there--lots of gas line leaks! Nancy

I'm in southern Brooklyn (not far from Coney Island). My neighborhood took a big hit from the storm. We live several blocks from a bay and about a mile from the beach. Most of my area was severely flooded, and small stores and local businesses were ruined. The water from the bay reached our apartment building, which was unbelievable because we are about 10 blocks from there, and flooded the first floor. Our building has a garage, and about 30 cars were destroyed. We had no power for three days. Power was restored a few hours ago. We are up and running again.

Very glad to hear that you are safe. That storm was horrible. We're going down to Ocean City Md. today to see if we have damage and to get all that duct tape off the windows. Sounds like fun to me ;D But really I'm grateful that the building is intact and secure.

It's a great relief to hear from the Ozalots in "Sandy's" path. When I see the devastation in the news, my heart goes out to everyone affected. Please stay safe and keep those great spirits up! Hugs.

Jackie, Nancy and Cheryl - I'm glad you're all physically OK. Very upsetting times along the East Coast. We had a bit of damage, but thankfully it's relatively minor: the rain guttter and attached leader across the front of the house came down on our front lawn. We're awaiting a visit from the insurance company's rep. No power or heat, but we do have hot water, at least. Hard to find open gas stations. I hope everyone's woes end soon.

Ellen,
Good to hear from you.
When I saw the newsclip of Broadway performers singing TOMORROW ( from "Annie") on Times Square - I couldn't help but choke up!

I'm glad to hear that those of you who live in the NYC/NJ area are OK, and haven't suffered any serious property damage. Whew!

I just wanted to say that I'm happy that everyone is safe and well after Sandy. Hope any property damage is kept to a minimum and that all power will be back on soon. I remember how devastating last years storms were around here including my 90+yr old Aunt and her son without power for almost 2 weeks and lots of property damage. This year we missed the full impact, one friend had just minor damage but we all breathed a sigh of relief at not having to endure another bad one! When I ride through some of the areas hit last year the damage is still very evident. I hope the recovery for the people in NY & NJ will be quick. I was sorry to hear that Hugh's building was damaged. Has anyone driven by Perry St. or is it still hard to get around in NY?
Well, enough rambling just wanted to pass good wishes on to those in the area. Sue

Hi all. Just got back from my trip to the condo in Ocean City, Md., and then up to Atlantic City NJ to see how our frinds were. In my building in Ocean City, the end units facing the beach all had damage. They need to be totally redone. The roofer also saw a fracture on that end of the building and that is probably why the units got so much damage. I'm on a ground floor and the unit that backs up to my bedroom (her bedroom) also was ruined. They have to restore the entire bedroom, and water damagecan and is a rotten smelly pain. I had no damage. I am very grateful for this gift. We cleaned up OC (took the duct tape off, did the windows, put everything back in place etc., and headed to Atlantic City and Brigantine NJ. Seems like the eye went right over Brigatine. My friends housewas OK. She was lucky, the water was one foor from her door, but their restaurant there, had two feet of water. We asked if we could bring anything or do anything, and they said they were fine. When we got there, I couln't believe my eyes, the restaurant is open. They're real type A's. The people more to the north of the island (and that's not too much further), many of them had no home to come back to and if they did, they were loaded with water.Atlantic City had some damge with their rooms in certain casinos, but they were up and running on Saturday at 2. My other girlfriend in Ndew Rochelle N.Y. just got her power back late yesterday. I was really worried. I kept calling and calling and got no response. She explained, "No Power" and she didn't have anywhere to charge her cell. So, now I've heard from evwerybody that was in Sandy's path. I just saw a quick post from Ellen. Does anyone know if she or her house are OK? I had never seen pictures of the Jackman's condo. But in looking at it, I can definitely understand with that location, why he had so much damage. I'll say it again, things can be replaced, people can't. I'm glad to know that everyone is safe and well. OK, past my bedtime on this computer. Everyone stay warm and dry. We're supposed to be having another storm headed up the east coast on election day. Just what the east coast needs. Jackie xoxo

I used to call New York home a very long time ago - so there is some affinity. I don't live there now ( although hurricanes aka typhoons in my side of the world are familiar encounters) but I can appreciate all the trauma and worry and the sense of helplessness that many may have undergone. I have close relatives in New Jersey, in midtown Manhattan, in Queens and near Oyster Bay -- so they are in differing situations. And it was difficult for a while to keep in touch with them because of the lack of telecommunication lines.
But people do come close together in situations like this - that would at least be one blessing.
I hope that things will be much better soon for everyone around!

Ellen sent me this PM:
House is basically OK; just a roof gutter and leader were blown off; fairly minor. We're back home. Full week now, no power or landline phone or heat. Feh!
Who'd have thought I'd be happy to be back at work? At least they have heat.

Jackie, it's good to hear that your condo was OK. Considering the damage to the surrounding ones, you were very lucky.
Ellen, I know what a relief it is when that power comes back on! Following last June's Derecho storm, which did a lot of damage to our area, we were without power, cell phone or internet service, and land line phone service for three days. It was very disorienting and awfully uncomfortable, since those were all 100 degree days. It's no fun being cold for a week, either - I hope your house gets warm and toasty quickly. Let's hope the approaching nor'easter tracks far out to sea and leaves us alone!

Welcome back Ellen. I know that NJ and NY got hit the hardest. A lot of people in Brigantine are still without power. We went to Ocean City Md., Friday to take the duct tape off. Now I think I should have left it on. We should be pros by now. Anyway, I'm glad you're back and OK.

Ellen Glad you're back on the grid Ellen! My area is watching for the nor'easter too. The latest seems to indicate that it's tracking more to the East. We are supposed to just get some wet snow they're saying now, so hopefully it will skip your area too. Sue
