As the movie is close to completion and will be soon be screening for special audiences, we would can expect the start of heavy promotion and publicity - maybe we should start a new thread? The Entertainment Weekly holiday movie preview issue arrived today, and Hugh (Jean Valjean, rather) IS the cover image. It's a gorgeous cover, and Hugh, Anne and Tom Hooper are quoted in the article. Hugh spoke of the theme of "the strong standing up for the weak," and that his father taught him, "You have to give to receive."
We all know that Hugh is a tireless champion for the less fortunate, which makes him uniquely qualified (along with, of course, his superb talent) for this role. I think that his empathy will add one more dimension to what will surely be an outstanding performance.

Is it solely Hugh/Valjean on the cover, Carol- or is it a collage of holiday movies pictured in the opening post?
Talking of the holiday season -- someone on another board thought that the Christmas berries ornament on Helena/Mme Thenardier's hairstyle was to further point out that the movie is coming out on Christmas Day... If you had a chance to read the script, the scene of Master of the House was set on Christmas Eve, just like in the novel. That is also when Valjean first meets little Cpsette in the woods.

Here's the other new poster, although the image was first seen on a lobby standee somewhere --  The image of Cosette/Amanda is much more appealing than how she was portrayed with a relatively bland image ( including nun-like costumes) on stage! They look quite the romantic pair from Les Miserables! Jo |

Judging by the bootleg, they are still holding back on people getting to hear Hugh sing. I truly believe that they are going to pull out all the stops as close to the nomination schedules as possible at the beginning of December just before the film opens. Trailer release early November in US (Skyfall premieres about 11/9) and then a steady buildup until about ten days before the film releases.

Special screenings for awards bodies will be held during Thanksgiving weekend ( third weekend of November ?) - not sure if this also includes NYC. Btw, an early screener copy for Lincoln has already resulted in a bootleg copy of the movie floating around ( according to a poster on IMDB). So, maybe they will delay screeners as long as possible. According to the IMDB poster who posted this bootleg -- he is from Australia - he said he missed the first 10 seconds of the trailer ( he was suprised that it came out - it was not with Skyfall, though) and based on earlier reports on the trailer, I think there was supposed to be some singing in the convict scene ( so maybe Hugh sings there?). Also, based on another report, if I am not mistaken, Hugh sings part of One Day More. Hey, I could clearly hear Russell sing for One Day More - -the voice sounds exactly like his slightly gravelly speaking voice but he seems to be clearly on pitch. You can also hear Amanda and Samantha singing for One Day More... But if I hear I Dreamed A Dream one more time... I'll  LOL! The "bootlegger" says he may be able to get a clearer video soon. I guess we'll see when the official trailer comes out online ... or maybe in USA cinemas when Skyfall debuts. Jo |

Where's MAMMA MIA!, also a Universal Pictures release, with its worldwide receipts of $ 610 million ( $ 145 million in the USA)??
Also, maybe they should have included worldwide receipts figures, as the overseas market has become the dominant revenue source for movies, save for some indies.
Also, as the perspective of the article is the impact of the historical and contemporary conflicts between the haves and the have-nots and cites some worldwide references ( the Arab spring), perhaps how the whole world would view this musical is what is more important on the artistic success and relevance of the musical, let alone its impact on the financial returns.
On the photos - great dramatic image of Valjean, the convict!

They look quite the romantic pair from Les Miserables! Jo I love the Cosette & Marius poster. It was reported earlier that it was in the NBC store in NYC. I'm glad we finally have it in an official poster. In the various pix, posters etc that we've seen so far I am struck by how much Isabelle Allen looks like Amanda Seyfried. It will certainly add realism to the movie because you can absolutely believe that Isabelle is the younger version of Amanda. I must add that I'm not thrilled with the Thenardiers poster, however.
