I may have posted this before, but I think it supports the possibility of a win for Hugh. A friend who lives in Los Angeles and works as a Producer (she says EVERYONE in LA is a Producer) saw an advance screening, only for AMPAS voters. She said it was not just for her, ie the Producer's Guild, but included everyone, ie Actors, Directors, etc. She said there was applause after almost every song. Further, she said in all the screenings she has attended in 10+ years, she has NEVER seen such an enthusiastic reaction. Her prediction is for lots of WINS. She has told me in the past that anytime she talks to anyone who has ever worked with him, they only have nice things to say. And she says this is rare. I think there is a possibility that the votes for the other nominees could split and Hugh could sneak in a win. One can hope and dream.

Too bad Hugh wore the Lincoln stovepipe hat and beard on Letterman's show after the Oscar voting deadline, LOL.
I think we all share your hope and dream. But at the very least, we'll get to see him perform at the ceremony. I'm glad his father will be there, too.

I totally missed Letterman. What did they talk about?

Here's what I remember: After the sight gag of Hugh in the Lincoln garb mock-angling for Oscar votes (post-voting deadline), and Hugh's singing "Fourscore and twenty years ago" in a deep voice and wondering tongue-in-cheekly why he wasn't cast as Lincoln , Dave asked him about parenting a growing boy. Hugh related some stories he's told before: wishing Oscar were more into sports, how they went hiking up Mt. Fuji in Japan while he was shooting THE WOLVERINE, and Oscar's falling asleep and missing a glorious sunrise. Then Dave got around to showing the incipient LES MIZ DVD/Blu-ray cover and they ran a short clip from the movie, specifically, the end of "Valjean's Soliloquy." Why does AMPAS tolerate this kind of shenanigans - it can only tarnish the Oscar image further Jo

It isn't just Weinstein. I heard interviews with both Richard Roeper and David Edelstein last week, and they both said basically the same thing. Edelstein said that ALL of the studios hire - as he put it - James Carville - type consultants to handle their Oscar campaigns. Weinstein may be more blatant about it than some of the others, but they all use obscene amounts of money and influence to self-promote.
Roeper said that as soon as the poster for Lincoln came out, the Academy Award was DDL's. Done deal. He said that most of the time the voters manage to do a pretty good job of choosing "the best" in each category, but there is huge pressure coming from all sides.
The Oscars are the culmination of a long awards season which is designed to get the most bang for the studios' bucks. "The best," seems to sometimes depend on which way the wind is blowing. How can a movie be nominated as best picture without having its director nominated? It makes no sense. The more I hear about the whole process, the more disillusioned I become.
I think Hugh is more than ready to leave all of this glitz behind and get on with his life. I'll be eternally gratefully that he had the opportunity to make this wonderful movie, and I look forward to watching it and listening to its sound track for years to come. It's a winner in my book.

Well, I am kind of glad it´s over because now I can breath and just enjoy Hugh´s work without being angry about trolls, critics and everybody. He will get that Oscar eventually, we know it
