Went to the Museum of the Moving Image Salute to Hugh tonight! It was wonderful! So many lovely speeches about Hugh, but no surprises, really. Everyone spoke about Hugh's work ethic, and his incredible talent. Nothing we don't already know!
They showed clips from X-Men, XMO: Wolverine, Swordfish, Kate and Leopold, Australia, The Prestige, and finally Les Mis.
Hugh looked gorgeous in his tux. Got to chat with him for a few minutes and congratulated him on this honor and on Les Mis. We also chatted with Anne Hathaway who was absolutely delightful! She was so friendly and nice to everyone!
Annette, it was great to see you and we loved talking with you about all things Hugh!

Cheryl, you lucky ducky! So it wasn't a Dean Martin-style celeb roast? Sounds like a lovely evening. No clip from THE FOUNTAIN? I'd have thought THE FOUNTAIN over such as SWORDFISH. Ellen

I forgot - Rachel Weisz introduced a clip from The Fountain - the bathtub scene (I think that's probably everyone's favorite here!) and shared with us a story about the raw emotions that Hugh experienced during the shooting of the film.
I kinda wish it had been a roast. I think that would have been a lot of fun. Speaking of which, one of the celebs there was Rachel Dratch, and she put on a full-on Aussie accent, making fun of Hugh's accent. She introduced the famous (or infamous!) Christmas Kangaroo clip from SNL!! It was so much fun to watch that again! I wondered what the guests who hadn't seen it before thought of it. It's so outrageous, but so funny!
Dratch made a mistake though - she said that Hugh hosted SNL three times? Did we miss something? I only know of that one time that he hosted and last year when he came on for the "Two Sides" sketch where he played Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.

You're right, Cheryl. He!s been on only two times, only one of which was a hosting gig. Of course, he SHOULD have hosted three times (at least), but that's another matter. Ellen

it was a spectacular night. A room full of people who think Hugh is the best of everything. He looked gorgeous and made time for everyone who wanted to speak to him. As always, when it's your turn he makes you feel so special. Deb was her always gracious self. The whole family will be at the star ceremony on Thursday.
Cheryl, it was great to spend time with you and your handsome husband.

Thank you so very much Annette and Cheryl for sharing your experiences. I almost feel as though I was there. I think it's wonderful that everyone had a few minutes with Hugh. I was wondering if that would be possible, but I'm glad you both had a chance to congratulate him on this wonderful honor!
And boy did he look gorgeous. I think instead of dealing with the fiscal cliff, Washingon should make it a law that Hugh always wears a tuxedo!

In addition to Cheryl and Annette's enviable recounting of the night's event, a Wall Street Journal blogger shares more details blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/12/12/stars-help-museum-of-the-moving-image-honor-hugh-jackman/----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stars Help Museum of the Moving Image Honor Hugh Jackman. By Addie Morfoot With less than two weeks to go before audiences get to experience Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper’s “Les Miserables,” the Museum of the Moving Image saluted The Boy from Oz on Tuesday night. The 27th annual event held at Cipriani Wall Street drew a who’s who of industry names including Jackman’s friends Mike Nichols and Christopher Nolan, and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. “It’s an honor to be the 27th and, if the Mayan calendar is right, last recipient of this award,” Jackman said. After a fish dinner was served, past and present costars including Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne (“Les Miserables”), Rachel Weisz (“The Fountain”) and Liev Schreiber (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) feted the star. Before confessing that Jackman was “probably the most disciplined, talented, emotionally, physically and spiritually gifted actor I will ever share a sauna with,” Schreiber came clean on his reasons for playing Jackman’s mutant brother Victor in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” “That motion picture was to be the franchise I would retire on – every aging actor’s dream,” Schreiber said. “A steady paying, sequel-producing character to keep me from the impoverished obscurity of the New York stage and propel my already considerably spoiled children through the overpriced minefield of New York City private schools. Unfortunately after a brief sampling of the training regiment required to sustain a career like Hugh’s, I began to wonder how wise it was for an actor of my age and stature to go galloping through his golden years as a giant game cat. That and the fact that no one bothered to write me into the sequel.” After letters from both Nicole Kidman and Alec Baldwin were read, Weisz recounted how Jackman “sobbed” for a half hour after her then fiancé and “Fountain” director Darren Aronofsky yelled cut while comedian Rachel Dratch, in a full-on Aussie accent, introduced the infamous SNL Christmas Kangaroo skit Jackman brought to life in 2009. When it was finally time for Jackman to receive his award, he thanked his colleagues and the black-tie crowd before revealing why it’s so hard for his wife to shop for him. “I’m a low key guy,” he joked. “I want pretty much what I want every year, which is for a movie with me starring in it to open up on Christmas Day and maybe a night like this just to top it off.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo

Tuesday, December 11th, was a gathering of many of the cast members and friends as the Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Award winner Hugh Jackman (and his beloved wife Deborra-Lee Furness), was on hand to receive the Museum of the Moving Image Award before hundreds of guests at Cipriani’s Wall Street. Between film clips of Hugh’s many movies and shows, including Les Miz, we were treated to the presenters and what they had to say about triple threat, Hugh Jackman. Liev Schreiber was on hand to salute Hugh – “emotionally, spiritually as gifted an actor I will ever share a song with – you brought high art and full frontal nudity to a genre I never thought could sustain it – I love you.” Deborra-Lee Furness talking about Wolverine when it was offered to Hugh – “You cannot do that! I must say it was the one time I was wrong. Our childrens’ college educations are compliments of Wolverine.” Rachel Weisz – “he is real. . . you are an incredible cocktail and I salute you.” Eddie Redmayne, after reading a congratulatory telegram by Alec Baldwin said: “many journalists have asked – what’s it feel like to be carried in Hugh Jackman’s biceps? I can tell you, it’s good . . .” Christopher Nolan – “I’m one of the small band of directors . . . I worked with Hugh on Prestige and think it’s one of his best performances. . . got to show the great passions in his life. . . he has extraordinary ambition in performing and showing the world his gift.” Mike Nichols “the thing about Jackman is - it’s hard not to get depressed thinking about all he can do and then coming home to be, well, you. . . I’ve seen him wringing wet after dancing, then, after showering, standing at the stage door for an hour signing autographs. . . what we can never hope to achieve, his giant generosity. . .” Rachel Dratch doing a bit with an Australian accent - “. . . yet Hugh Jackman does it everyday.” This was followed by a Holiday commercial shown in Australia with a kangaroo - - I can’t say anymore! Ann Hathaway “Hugh, is this weird for you? . . . He’s gorgeous. . . the first time we saw you as Wolverine in that 3 sizes too small tank top. . . I became a die-hard comic book lover. . . there are stars and then there is Hugh Jackman . . . he is bursting with ability and drive, generosity, selflessness and imagination. . . in Les Miserables he exposes his soul bare and soars to the heavens. . . he’s a grown up and so careful of other peoples’ feelings. . .you set the bar. . . going onto the set all I remember is laughing and feeling entirely bathed in light because of you . . . you’re a super hero on screen and off . . . it’s been one of the great gifts of my life to know you and call you my friend.” Hugh Jackman – “it’s a vase. . . I love being here during the holidays. . . I’m a pretty low-key guy. . . it’s impossible for me to thank all the people in this room for what’s happened to me . . . my father was an accountant at Price Waterhouse . . . when the Price Waterhouse accountants came on the Academy Awards, I cheered . . . there is one person I want to thank – the casting director who cast me in my first job, Corelli, because that’s where I met the love of my life, Deborra-Lee . . . when I met my wife, within 3 seconds, I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with her. . . I love you with all my heart and all of this I share with you . . .” Jackman is funny and amusing, with lots of wonderful life stories, but what always comes through is his sheer genuineness, generosity, love of family and joy. It was my joy to be present and part of this special event! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Even the reporter of this account gave a shoutout on how she felt being there Check out the photo gallery from the original link. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/les-mis-5-best-quotes-401299-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 5 Best Quotes From Hugh Jackman's NYC Tribute 11:03 AM PST 12/12/2012 by Erin Carlson The takeaway from the Museum of the Moving Image's star-studded salute to Hugh Jackman: the Les Miserables actor, newly nominated for a SAG Award as hero Jean Valjean, is undeniably talented. A triple threat. A miracle of a man from Down Under whose very existence makes other actors -- no, everyone -- feel less worthy. "He's also so nice -- it's, like, unbelievable," Les Mis director Tom Hooper told THR before Tuesday's event, held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. "However long hours he works, however much he has to sing, he's always gracious with the crew. He's always a wonderful leader. He's kind of inspiring. And I don't want to go too far with this, I'll sound like I'm gushing -- but he really is kind of a rather amazing person." The accolades continued for the 44-year-old star, the Museum's 27th salutee, as a Who's Who of speakers including former co-stars, directors and wife Deborra-Lee Furness took turns at the podium to praise Jackman and present clips of his past work in film, theater and as host of Saturday Night Live. Other boldfaced names paying tribute: Mike Nichols; Anne Hathaway, who's Fantine to Jackman's Valjean; Eddie Redmayne, who plays Marius in Les Mis; Rachel Weisz, who starred opposite him in The Fountain (2006); Christopher Nolan, his director for The Prestige (also in '06); Liev Schreiber, his co-star in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009); and ex-SNL comic Rachel Dratch. Dratch leads a roundup of the night's most amusing quotes: 1: "Hugh Jackman does it all: acting, singing, dancing, he's a triple threat," she said in a thick Australian accent, drawing big laughs from the audience. "He's also here tonight because he's Australian, and that Australian accent isn't easy to do. Just listen to me, it's hard. Yet Hugh Jackman does that accent every day of his life." 2. "The thing about Jackman is it's hard not to get depressed thinking about all that he is and can do. And then going home and .... being, well, you." - Nichols. 3. "Not to sound ungenerous, but it's been my experience that when someone is as charming and likable as Hugh, it's usually because they are overcompensating for a lack of talent. Or a psychopath. But I have worked with Hugh a few times now so I know this is not the case here. He is crazy-wonderful." -- Hathaway. 4. "After a brief sampling of the training regimen required to sustain a career like Hugh's, I began to wonder how wise it was for an actor of my age and stature to go galloping through his golden years as a giant mutant ... cat. That, and the fact that no one bothered to write me into the [Wolverine] sequel probably accounted for the somewhat precipitous fall my career has endured for the past three years." -- Schreiber. And last, but not least, Jackman himself: 5. "Amazingly, six months ago Nate Silver did predict I was gonna get this. .... But it is an honor to the be the 27th, and, if the Mayan calendar right, last recipient of this award." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It would probably have been awkward to have asked Darren Aronofsky to be there and say a few words about Hugh's professionalism and dedication. I do remember how much praise he had for Hugh when they worked together in The Fountain. And too bad Nicole was not around - I read that she sent a video message? They had worked so well together! Other than Rachel, she is the leading lady I always like to see working with Hugh. They are both very professional and focused on their art! Jo
