Bought a copy of this and watched it yesterday. I liked the movie, even though Hugh had such a small role. That was a great kiss he gave that actress though!! :o

The first time I saw it was without subtitles so it was mostly in Chinese and I still enjoyed it and could follow the story pretty well. I saw it again recently with the subtitles and enjoyed it even more. It's on my Amazon to buy list. I understand that fans of the original book weren't too pleased with the movie but I never read the book so I liked it a lot. I had studied foot binding way back in the stone age when I was very involved with feminist politics so I was very moved by that part of the story and by the close bond the women from both eras had with each other. I think Hugh did a great job with such a small part. You went from thinking he was a total jerk to almost feeling sorry for him. That's our boy!  Sue |
