Let´s hope critics and viewers will see it the same way. I remember how they said the crew applauded after Hugh sang Bring Him Home....
*sigh* I just want it to be a really great movie. Hugh deserves the best.

I watched the clip again and it seems the particular scene was one with Jake Gyllenhaal. I thought it might have been a scene with the mentally-retarded character played by Paul Dano.
Wow - I wonder what scene that could be??!! I need to re-read the script again...or could they have rewritten the script for added intensity?

It wasn't the film crew -- it was the barricade boys and Samantha ( she even tweeted to Hugh that the scene was "stunning"). People may disagree ( esp if the reference point is the stage musical where there was already an iconic interpretation of the song embedded in people's minds ) but if you read what lyricist Herbert Kretzmer said about the intent of BRING HIM HOME ( that it started as a mental and emotional turmoil for Valjean as he was partly jealous of Marius taking away his Cosette, until it dawned on him that to love Cosette is also to love Marius ...and then his spoken thoughts evolved into an impassioned plea, not necessarily a soft prayer, with God to spare him ) -- then it is easy to appreciate the acting/singing choice. True, Hugh does not have the same beauty and quality of voice as most stage singers and that his high baritone does not match the original Wilkinson tenor interpretation, but to me it was also a matter of directorial and acting choice - a matter of how the acting through song was to be interpreted. The film director, the musical director, the creatives ( composers) were all there to oversee those 17 takes -- they knew what they were going to show on screen!
Also, remember how The Soliloquy was interpreted? Everyone says that it was Hugh's best dramatic moment ( acting through song!) and it was even used as the clip when he was hailed as a nominee during the Oscars - yet it was so different from the straightforward singing interpretation in stage productions! But because The Soliloquy is more of a recitative and did not have the melodic quality of Bring Him Home, he is praised for one with his own interpretation and dissed for the other because he chose to act it out through singing in his own way. But for all we know, Hugh's Bring Him Home may have been one of the dramatic highlights that brought him an Oscar nomination?
Back to PRISONERS -- a film crew that is brought to tears by something they witness while filming -- that has got to be a spontaneous reaction, not something that is meant to "endear" them to the actors, I would think. This was something that happened on set which was witnessed by someone involved in the filming ( Taris) and not by media invited on set. Is Taris trying to "hype" the movie? He didn't seem the type who gushes over working with Hugh, though...Maybe I am naive, but I am not cynical when it comes to something reported like this. Let's hope it is as very well acted as some of the dramatic scenes we have seen Hugh act out in his other movies. We all know he has the depth of talent for it!

Hey, I loved Hugh´s Bring Him Home and everything about it  I am just saying that I am a little sceptical since then I have no doubt Hugh will be wonderful as always but I want to keep the excitement in this time and wait for the result, that´s all |

LOL - don't worry, she does not have I DREAMED A DREAM as a teaser/trailer come-on ;D...Although didn't Melissa win her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress ( The Fighter) before Anne claimed hers? Christian Bale did win as Best Supporting Actor in the same film, too. Er...I think that the Paul Dano role could also tempt some awards notice for a support role in PRISONERS.
But Keller's role is looked at as a possible contender, too -- I have read one or two comments on IMDB Movie Awards say so, because the script for this movie was available way back then.

Melissa Leo actually IS great. I love her, same as Maria Bello. They both deserve all the success. But I seriously doubt they would have such an impact, this is different movie than Les Miz. Also, they are not contenders in "lead actor"  Let´s wait what the movie will be like before giving them awards |

Movie fans make forecasts ahead of release, probably because of the potential-- *If the script is very well-rated ( in this case, it is a BlackList top-rated script - the script is riveting and the roles of Holly and her nephew are the usual kind of roles which draws awards potential...also the role of Keller, because of the dark element). *If the cast have very good acting reputations and the roles they will be performing have potential for notice (Leo is an Oscar winner, while Jackman, Gyllenhaal, Davis have won Oscar nominations...Dano and Howard are deemed to be good actors)...whether they actually get award attention is of course dicey but if the critical reception to their performance/portrayal is very good, then we can look forward to that potential happening. *If the creatives ( mainly the director, the cinematographer, the screenwriter) have very good reputations ( Villeneuve has been largely praised for his work in INCENDIES while cinematographer Deakins has been nominated for an Oscar a number of times). Let's hope that PRISONERS have all those ingredients right! Check out the MOVIE AWARDS board on IMDB ( the busiest on IMDB) and they are already putting out lists for the coming awards season Jo |

Check out Melissa Leo in FROZEN RIVER. That was the first time I'd ever heard of her. She was fantastic and the movie was gripping. I have high hopes fir this film.

She is also basically the only actor I remember from 21 Grams. I didn´t like that movie too much but I remember being impressed by her in the few scenes she had. One of the underrated ones. I am glad Hugh can work with my two favourite actresses (now get him a role with Kate Winslet and Naomi Watts and my life will be complete ) |

Is the Oscar curse really working? Kate Winslet has not done anything significant since she won in 2009. Same thing happened with Halle Berry...maybe even Charlize Theron ??
Do they get to be too choosy or have much higher demands when negotiating?
Only one who has consistently gotten good roles is Meryl ... and even up to now. She is being forecast next year for August: Osage County -- I know it is early, but the Pullitzer-winning stage play was well-acclaimed. And she does not tie herself up to a typical genre. Lol - she even became the key lead in Mamma Mia!

Charlize Theron had one bad movie (Aeon Flux) but last year was very successful for her and I am a big fan of hers. Me, as a woman, can honestly say that she is my big crush.
As I understoond, Kate Winslet just took a break (it really looked like an Oscar chasing for a while) and she won Emmy for Mildred Pierce last year. I think she returns to filming now.
As for Halle Berry...yeah, she pretty much disappeared. She had so-so Gothika out (it wasn´t bad but not great either) and then she had some movie with sharks? I find it funny that she has so high demands for X-Men since she is nowhere so big star as, well, basically most of her colleagues even from the younger cast.

It looks like there is still a bit of filming left for PRISONERS, as Hugh was seen going to an airport in NYC presumably to board a plane for Atlanta. He is still wearing the facial hair he has been seen with since he joined the PRISONERS filming. DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is due to start filming in mid-April, although he may not necessarily be needed right away. The movie is more of a sequel of FIRST CLASS.  Jo |

He is still wearing the facial hair he has been seen with since he joined the PRISONERS filming. You might know, I'll be at the Atlanta airport tomorrow, flying to Cleveland to be with my Dad who broke his hip, had surgery and then got sicker with COPD and pneumonia. He sounded much better today and we hope he will be moved from the ICU to a regular floor.

My BFF has COPD among other things and it's been touch & go with her for months now. The filming schedule was sometime in January up to end-March. So, they were pretty much on schedule. The producers are Alcon Entertainment, a medium-sized producing outfit ( with a distribution deal with Warner Brothers) which has a fairly successful filmography history. www.alconent.com/news/news-articles/alcon-press-releases/hugh-jackman-to-star-in-‘prisoners’_3-15-2012/?breadcrumb=pressReleaseBut the movie is being released by Warner Brothers, so I guess it is the latter which will take care of any promotional material. Les Miserables was a different thing altogether -- *While it was a producing initiative by Working Title ( together with CamMack), the film distributor Universal is the parent company of WT. And I guess Universal was heavily involved not just in the marketing for film distribution purposes but even early on during casting of the major leads. So, there was understandably a lot of Hollywood media interest in the project. *Les Miserables by itself as a pop cultural phenomenon was a long-established brand name. So the filmization of the stage musical would draw much attention not just from fans but also from media. *Les Miserables was also an excellent example of where the interest from the worldwide musical theatre audiences combined with the interest from movie musicals fans. That is quite a large market to bring news updates and press coverages of. *Les Miserables had more A-list casting than PRISONERS. Its director, Tom Hooper, has already won an Oscar. Hence there would be more interest in the film project. I think similar observations can be made for the interest in The Wolverine, because of the huge fanbase of the XMEN movies and comicbooks. The film project was also a little controversial early on, when Darren Aronofsky first attached himself to the project, then the search for a new director came about when DA left the project, and eventually Mangold took it on but with some rewriting by himself and the team of creatives. It is also based on one of the most popular comic book original materials and one of the first movie comic book adaptation that is wholly set in a foreign land? And beloved movie Wolverine, Hugh Jackman, returns to the role which has portrayed since 2000! Maybe when they release the first trailer for PRISONERS, the media coverage will start and build up until the movie release in September. Or hopefully some film sites will feature early set visit interviews? Jo |

Prisoners currently is in the top 25 films to keep an eye on for this year's releases, but not among the top 10 considered probable Oscar contenders. Until there is a trailer or early previews for critics, there isn't likely to be much news.
