Am I crazy or was there another photo after this one this morning? In the blue plaid shirt by some water with one of the Japanese gals, probably the one playing Mariko. I didn't save it, came back to save it and now I can't find it.

Not too sure about this photo ( from the same Japanese fansite) -- but is this Hugh? The height, the build and the facial hair look alright and even the ubiquitous cellphone is there... but the head of hair is more full ( and a little unlike the Wolverine 2 hairstyle). What do you think?

It might be a stunt double. He's holding the phone in his right hand and Hugh's left handed. Even just grabbing a phone, you usually use your dominant hand.

It looks like the Wolverine team are back in Sydney. I saw one tweet which said SAYONARA to Japan from someone who was probably with the cast/crew but I wasn't sure he was speaking for the entire production team.

Tom Rothman Leaving Position as 20th Century Fox Film Division Co-Chairman and CEO

This is a big development for Fox. Tom Rothman, who once raised money for indie productions by the likes of Spike Lee and Jim Jarmusch, founded Fox Searchlight in 1994, and has led Fox proper since 2000. As co-chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment he has been very hands-on with all the studio’s productions, especially the major tentpole releases. His heavy hand was infamous on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but in the past two years we’ve seen Fox turn around. Last summer the studio released X-Men First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, both films that worked as blockbuster entertainment and critical successes. But now Rothman is unexpectedly leaving the company.

Ben Fritz of the LA Times tweeted the news of Rothman’s departure. THR originally said that the move is effective immediately, and that ”all studio operations will be consolidated under studio co-chairman Jim Gianopulos.” In fact, thanks to a letter Rothman sent out this evening, we know the transition will be fast, but not immediate. Gianopulos will be sole chairman starting January 1.

I wonder if there’s more to this story; as of now, this is the official line.

I have decided that, after more than 18 years — the bulk of my adult working life — I am resigning as Chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, effective January 1, 2013. A press release from Fox features some of Rothman’s letter, and also outlines a lot of division reorganization that will go on at the company:

In conjunction with Rothman’s departure, News Corporation announced a reorganization of its studio operations that separates the film and television production units. As a result, the film business will now assume the name Twentieth Century Fox Film, and is comprised of Twentieth Century Fox Film, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox 2000, Fox Animation/Blue Sky Studios, Fox International Productions, and Fox Home Entertainment.

Twentieth Century Fox Television, which also includes Fox Television Studios and Fox 21, is now an autonomous business unit within News Corporation, and will no longer be combined with the Company’s film operations. Accordingly, current Co-Chairs Dana Walden and Gary Newman will now report directly to Chase Carey, News Corporation’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

I am personally sad to see Rothman leave Fox. While it is true many fans have accused him of micromanaging filming, I think his executive talent has been very helpful to FOX's success. He had vision and strong executive ability.

He has also been very supportive of Hugh Jackman. I was there when he attended the San Francisco tryout of Hugh's one-man show. He was also at the Chinese Grauman Theatre ceremony for Hugh's hand and foot imprint. And he was there at Tempe, Arizona when XMEN Origins had its premiere!

He mentions two films that are recorded as the two most successful in film history -- these are TITANIC and AVATAR, both produced under his watch! On the other side of the coin, he has also founded the indie-film powerhouse ( Fox Searchlight) which proves he was not just a "suits" kind of exec, but also looked at nurturing creativity!



I wonder if the News Corp reorganization has forced him out of the organization?

I hope Jim Gianopulos succeeds in keeping the new reorganized FOX FILMs on its successful path!

Of the mogul duo, Rothman was considered the creative force in moviemaking decisions, while Gianopulos is the business-minded executive and tough negotiator. In a restructured News Corp., Dana Walden and Gary Newman will report directly to Carey, eliminating the need for another executive layer.

News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch is focused is on profitability, which Fox continues to maintain, but there is no doubt that the studio has lost its creative momentum in the past couple of years. In addition, there has been exodus of production executives, and morale is low on the lot...
