Yes, there really is a meaty story there that should be made into a movie. I wonder if it will ever happen?

A review of a regional production -- www.artsatl.com/2015/09/review-alliances-a-steady-rain/When I saw the accompanying photo, the first thing that came to mind was the improbable casting. Denny looked liked a much older and bad-tempered cop while Joey looked like someone still wearing "rookie" blue. Hmmm...weren't they supposed to have been classmates since "kindergarten"? I could see not much charm in Denny and Joey did not exude hidden depths, as portrayed by the actors in the photo. And the review, after reading it, pointed the same incongruities. I wonder -- had the reviewer seen the Broadway production if he would come away with the same tinge of disappointment about the show almost just like any cop procedural on TV? The amazing thing about the Broadway casting was how far-fetched the characters portrayed by Hugh and Daniel seemed so far away from the well-known personalities of the actors. Jo

I'm still hoping for news of a movie version. But it appears as though any plans in that regard have been dropped.

I wonder why they shelved the plans.
*Keith Huff had already written the first draft of the film script. *He became a writer for one or two TV series...so he had the qualifications to handle the film adaptation. *When I had a chance to ask Hugh about it during Back on Broadway, he said he has not been in touch with the project for a long time.
It would not have been a very expensive film project, unless the two stars are asking for very high salaries ( doubtful). Maybe they should have shopped around for a film director who might be interested in it ( why not someone like Denis Villeneuve, for a fresh take?), as that is what would drive the success of the project?
Since the producers are concentrating on their James Bond franchise - maybe they are not keen to have Daniel Craig portray a non-heroic role on film? Just guessing, of course?

There's an upcoming stage production of Steady Rain in England (Yorkshire, not London). I wonder if the continuing interest in the material might prod some film producer to adapt it for film, assuming the former Broadway producers have already given up the film rights?

www.artsbham.com/theatre-review-steady-rain-delivers-hard-hitting-theatre/Another staging of A STEADY RAIN, this time in Birmingham ( Alabama?). Another heapful of praise for the material and the actual staging/acting. Why can't the producers not see that this is wonderful material for a film noir movie and cast the original Broadway actors? Why can't Steven Spielberg go back and think about a film adaptation once again? Jo

This was posted by Colbert or his people today??? Whether he's referring to ASR or RIVER, he's being acerbically comic a bit late on either count. Unless this is an older tweet...

It doesn't look as if a movie will ever be made of A STEADY RAIN, does it?
I'll bet Stephen Karam is up for a Pulitzer for his excellent play THE HUMANS.

I can't understand why the Bond producers decided not to pursue it. Keith completed the first draft of the screenplay...but nothing was heard of after that. It wouldn't have been a very expensive production even if they fleshed out the events described on stage... Was it the actors's schedules? That would have been a fairly short shoot.

Now you have to admit, much as we admired HJ and DC in the play, the actors pictured in the above story look more like the usual visual image that comes to mind regarding hard-nosed, burned-out cops.

Interesting photo at the ceremonies sponsored by BC/EFA for the fundraising efforts of the team from A STEADY RAIN. I thought it was an excellent graphic representation of the roles of Joey and Denny, as they were portrayed in the play. Joey comes to the forefront at the end ( whether it was due to cunning and guile or just a consequence of what happened to his best friend) while Denny recedes in the background! Btw, even here one can see why I thought that in one scene Hugh looked " really beautiful" Jo
