Is this going to be a stretched out version of the movie?
The movie was quite long...
but if this series is broken down into quite a few episodes, then it might prove to be more interesting compared to the movie.
Hope they will make it available on home video.

x.com/movie_charles/status/1715013538882760955?s=20This raises an interesting point. *Hugh and Nicole were compensated for the original movie. Presumably that includes all the takes that were filmed. It is assumed that Baz edited or supervised the editing of the movie. So, if he now decides to restore the edited scenes -- is that a new movie or are those restored takes already paid ( and included in their original compenssation). IF, they are asked to promote it (assuming that the strike is over by Nov 26, when the series has its premiere) before that - then that is new work and not covered by their original pay & corresponding work commitment. Also, at that time, actors were being paid presumably when their movies are sold to TV, airline entertainment, etc. But is streaming considered a new market, for which they may demand compensation ( or is that one of the areas for discussion by the studios vs the actors?) Any thoughts? Jo

If the original movie is expanded and the new version creates a relatively new creative product - will it qualify for any award recognition? If there is no theatrical run, will it qualify as an EMMY TV production?
I wonder if Baz will expand the story of the Drover...and even integrate the song written & sung by Elton John on The Drover? It could not qualify for the Oscars then because it was the 2nd post credits song ( only songs in a movie and the first post-credits song qualify).
That will add further richness to the story and will also be more "woke" because his wife who died early was an aborigine or part- aborigine.
And what was the origin of Nullah - his mother was an aborigine in the farm, who it seems was a mistress of Lady Sarah's husband ( did I remember this right?).
And will they show the entire love scenes between The Drover & Lady Sarah?
It is also likely that they will introduce more to the story at the beginning before Lady Sarah arrived in Australia?
Just curious.

If the series is shown on any TV channel (including Hulu), it will be eligible for Emmys. As far as whether any of the actors will receive any more money or residuals, your guess is as good as mine.

Baz Luhrmann has given an interview re FARAWAY DOWNS -- with The Wrap.
Re his comment on Hugh's profile at that time -- Baz said that Hugh Jackman was just starting his road to film fame and that he had done only 1 XMen film then. "Australia" was released in 2008. Before that, Hugh had already done 3 XMen movie (XMen Last Stand was released in 2006). In 2006, The Fountain, The Prestige, Happy Feet, Scoop were also released. He had done The Boy From Oz on Broadway. Other hits in his portfolio included Van Helsing & Kate & Leopold...
So, Baz did not put him in the limelight in this film. Hugh Jackman had already made a name for himself. I also remember that Showest ( the Association of US Theatrical Distributors) had named him as Star of the Year for being in 6 film releases in 2006. What Baz failed to mention was that he had cast Russell Crowe initially as The Drover but Russell had some disagreement with Fox and resigned from the role. Hugh was initially cast, if I am not mistaken, in the role of the villain but was moved up to the lead role eventually.

First, I think I have a faint recollection of what that second ending was supposed to be. Baz's words here give a strong hint. Baz says it is really Lady Ashley's story and she should not be defined by any one person...and earlier, he also says that there will be more focus on the aborigine Nullah ( who goes on a walkabout at the end anyway). Baz also says he might have been compelled in 2008, a difficult year for the USA, economically-speaking, so to give them further tragedy might not work...
So, I am guessing ( ( from my recollections, as well), it will be The Drover who might die at the end.
It will also provide a great opportunity for the Elton John's Ballad of The Drover a chance to be put as part of the film's musical score ( instead of as an afterthought post-credits 2nd song)
On the other hand -- why should this be the story of a foreigner who learned to love the land of Australia? Why not make it the story of an Australian whose affinity with the land and the way people lived and loved would be more interesting?
Ahhh... but Baz probably thinks the story of the foreigner would be more interesting?
