Sunday in the Park with George - Free DownloadParis's Theatre du Chatelet recently presented Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, starring Julian Ovenden, and the production was filmed and broadcast by Mezzo TV. The production is now available to download free of charge for a very limited time. Ovenden posted on Twitter today to alert fans to the news, writing, "Here's a link to the TV broadcast of Sunday in The Park from Paris this Spring. Only available for the next two days." This is a beautiful MP4 file; in English with French subtitles. Enjoy while the link is up! Sunday w/George FREE DOWNLOADThis is a FABULOUS idea IMO. I hope other producers see the merit and follow suit. If you can read French, more info here(scroll down for a video of clips)

I had listened to some of this when it was broadcast live online, but didn't know about the download link. Thanks so much, Valerie. I love Julian Ovenden's voice. I'm fortunate that I saw him early in the run of DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY in NY before he developed vocal problems and had to leave.
Thanks again for the link--much appreciated!
UPDATE: Oops--I keep getting a message that the file format is not recognized. Help! Is it a Mac problem?

I have the DVD of the original Broadway production ( Patinkin and Peters). I am downloading the Chatelet production now as I type. Thanks, Val.
Ironically, I had much interest in the paintings of Georges Seurat much earlier ( than this Sondheim show) because more than three decades ago, a cousin helped me get my very first important Filipino art ( with my hard-earned money -LOL!). It must have been inspired by Seurat because it was a garden theme and the pointillist art was very distinct!
Paris is not usually keen to mount stage musicals from Broadway or the West End - it must have been the subject which made this an attraction for the Chatelet theatre group?

Thanks for that link Valerie!I've seen the Mandy Patinkin version so I'm glad to be able to see another version. It's a huge file so I won't be watching it tonight and things coming up the next couple days so I may have to wait till the end of the week...something to look forward to!

I'm having download difficulties. Is there something other than hitting OK under Download that I should do? I've tried both Save File and Open File.
Any suggestions?

I don't know what happened with my downloading process, too. All of a sudden, my computer froze on me, as the downloading was supposed to be going on smoothly while I surfed on another site. Now I need to try again Jo

"Save File" (store it on your hard drive) should be the option you want. (You're not trying to do this on your phone, are you? It's a full play; more than a 1.3GB of info.) Click "I Agree" on the first page (to accept a "cookie" from the file locker website) On the next page, Click "Download" then select "Save File" in the dialog box that opens on your screen, and click OK. An mp4 should play with QuickTime on your Mac. My preferred viewer is VideoLAN, which has a Mac version. Scroll down to find the option for your OS

Thanks for the tips, Valerie. (By the way, no, I would never try to save anything that big on my phone.) I can't even edit a post on my phone; it won't let me. All systems go now--it's all downloaded successfully. Merci! , Ellen

This link still seems to be functional, even though we're past the announced deadline. If you want it, get it while you can. If you have it, I hope you're enjoying it. It looks like a nice quality video of a wonderful production.
Why couldn't they have done this with Back on Broadway and A Steady Rain at the end of their (all too limited) runs? If nothing else, it would encourage people to make the effort to attend the *next* show!

I know--all these missed opportunities are so frustrating.
Thanks again for the link to SUNDAY.

Watched it this afternoon. I enjoyed it very much. I've never seen Julian Ovenden but I really liked him and I'll keep an eye out for other things he's in. I was surprised to see David Charles Abell as the conductor. He's getting to be quite a star and ends up on stage for the curtain calls. He was the conductor for the Queens anniversary concert that we all talked about a bit last year and also the Les Mis 25th Anniversary concert and I think also the 10th.
Thoughts that passed through my mind while watching...What a genius mind to look at a painting and think "This would make a great Broadway musical, a giant tableau of still-lifes that come to life and sing and interact with each other and tell their own stories..." I love creativity! Sue

Hi All, would any of you happen to still have the recording for Sunday in the Park with George at Theatre du Chatelet?

I know I saw a HD version of the musical a couple of years ago on Youtube. I didn't copy it unfortunately. Does anyone know if there is another way of downloading or getting it? I wrote to Mezzo but on their site there doesn't appear to be any way of getting a decent copy there. Youtube has a copy but it is in 480p. I recall what I saw was at least in 720p if not 1080p. I really wish I had copied it there. I forget that things get posted and then pulled off Youtube all the time.
Thanks.
