Well, we know most B'way performers can't hold a candle(abrum) to our Hugh. Maybe that's why producer Jerry Weintraub, according to Michael Riedel, has Hugh on the top of his wish list for a possible new musical about Liberace. At least Riedel correctly points out that Hugh is way too young for the lead. (I liked the Michael Douglas HBO movie, by the way. But Hugh? Bad idea.) www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/theater/tuner_for_liberace_PDPpiezxdvYE35IVEciP8KEllen

I agree!! Hugh's brilliant portrayal of Peter Allen focused not necessarily on his gay orientation but more on Peter's scintillating presence and his impact on audiences! Besides I would rather see Hugh work his "magic" the Houdini way Jo

After a rather misleading article from BWW ( argghhhh) - it is all over Twitter ( more arghhhh) and that it sounds like a real possibility LOL - I really just want some kind of official word that HOUDINI is still a continuing project and that Hugh is still attached...and that LIBERACE is nowhere in the horizon. While I loved Liberace, and have 2 signed programs from stage door encounters, I wouldn't want to see Hugh playing him...he doesn't need to be typecast as the go to guy for playing gay entertainers on stage. I'm glad he's too young! Sue

It seems that Michael Riedel always invokes Hugh's name as a possibility for a new Broadway musical. But he also mentions Victor Garber, who I think is much more suitable and age-appropriate.
BTW, I didn't like the HBO movie. I was really looking forward to it, but it was specifically about Liberace and Scott Thorson, since it was based on Thorson's book. They didn't show enough of Liberace's professional life on stage, IMO.I would have preferred more of a biography of him. I loved the small supporting role by Scott Bakula, and I thought Matt Damon was excellent.
I really don't think this show is gonna happen, so we don't have to even think about Hugh doing it.
