We've heard a few times audio interviews of Hugh by his best mate, Gus Worland. This time, Gus's radio show THE GRILL TEAM has come up with a great one -- THE HUGH FILES! Most everything you want to know about Hugh, as queried by Gus smiley-hug006 www.triplem.com.au/sydney/shows/grill-team/blog/2013/7/hugh-jackman-wants-gallipoli-movie-role/*On a serious note, he did say that a dream project would be a remake of Peter Weir's GALIPOLI, which he says is due for a landmark anniversary in 2015. I wonder if this is secretly brewing as one of his new projects? *And Indiana Jones movies seemed to have had the strongest pull and inspiration for him to become an actor. *Hugh is really sports-mad! Check out some of his personal heroes *Love the last question giggle -- I have always thought that his friendship with a bloke like Gus was one living proof on how to squash "the rumors". LOL - Gus must be on the receiving end of the jokes, too smiley-taunt002 Jo

A second interview from the same link is one about THE WOLVERINE, which Gus was able to view in an advance screening. They seemed to have spent a few times enjoying Japan on holidays. I do remember that both were joined by close friends to mark everyone's 40th birthday - they must have been classmates - and spent about a week in Japan a few years back. Hugh was talking about the Japanese spa incident - I have to listen again to clarify if he meant that for the time of filming Wolverine or was that when they went to Japan on holiday? Gus also shared this photo from schooldays together -- Hugh is second from the left on the second row. But is that Gus the young man (with dark hair) on the side of the teacher in the center? Jo

LOL - so the spa ( "onsen")incident with the face towel was shared with his mates, probably during that trip a few years back. Maybe he freshened up the retelling 8-) That accent -- it gets thicker and more distinct when he is talking to a fellow Aussie! Jo

Among the muck ups at Gallipoli was that this elite group of riders ended up in the battle without their horses and suffered all those losses and then once their horse arrived won the charges on their horses in the last use of a Light Brigade at the Wells in a very important and historical event that is virtually unknown outside of Australia. There was even an Australian movie about it "The Horsemen". Naturally, "The Drover" would have been in the middle of this since it fits in totally with the lyrics of the ballad. It would certainly make a great film for Hugh either as a remake of Gallipoli or as an original film. Anyone who would like to read more about the Light horse Brigade can find out just about everything you ever wanted to know here (and I mean EVERYTHING): alh-research.tripod.com/Light_Horse/

Jamie,
Interesting correlation between the Drover's tale on his involvement in the first world war and the ANZAC forces in that war theatre. I have not seen the movie GALLIPOLI itself but I have read about it being a great portrayal of a classic war movie involving ANZAC.
Hugh's reference to 2015 as its landmark anniversary and his saying that it is a realistic expectation to celebrate through a project, which could be a hint that there might be something more concrete that is already being discussed. As you said, maybe the story of the the Light Brigade tragic charge might make a most interesting plotline. Maybe AUSTRALIA could have its own prequel, by way of the Drover's story, suggested by the movie itself and by the ballad written by Elton John.
Wasn't there supposed to be another Australian film project ( the one which relates to a former Errol Flynn movie) that some people were trying to entice Hugh's involvement? Will he ever get down to do such a project ( another Australian project), after he had already been involved in AUSTRALIA?

Hugh has not been in a war movie per se ( except for opening scenes for the WOLVERINE spinoffs) -- this could be an interesting project, if pursued. He is a natural for action movies and a dramatic was movie would again be a good way to explore his acting talent, as he begins to explore other action movies beyond the XMEN series.

Jo I actually wrote about Gallipoli and Beersheba Wells back in 2010 and it led to a friendship with Bill Woerlee of the Light Horse Study Center when he corrected me on some facts I had put into this one: jdurward.blogspot.com/2010/09/hollywood-can-be-ass.html and caused me to write a semi-retraction with this jdurward.blogspot.com/2010/09/feedback-is-wonderful.html. The upshot of this was an agreement that there was a great movie never made about Light Horsemen that could star Hugh and Russell as Grant and Cameron to finally tell the real story not previously told.

I believe Russell is already involved in a future project about Gallipoli, as the Director. Can't remember the name, but he recently spent time in Turkey, possibly doing research. No stars named for it yet, but one can always hope he keeps 24601 in mind !!!!!!!

Aha - maybe that is the reason for Hugh's rather enigmatic quip!
