Here's an update on the actor who almost became the film Wolverine - Dougray Scott! www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/2967192/dougray-scott-actor-the-woman-in-white/Interestingly, he now plays the villain Sir Percival in the new BBC drama THE WOMAN IN WHITE. This is the same Victorian novel which was musicalized by Andrew Lloyd Webber and was a successful show in the UK...but was plagued with serious illness in its ill-fated Broadway transfer.

Ironic that it may be difficult to recast as either a young or an older Logan/Wolverine! Hugh pretty much covered the entire Wolverine bio In Origins, Logan was presented from youth to how he became Wolverine with the metal claws! And in the prologue we saw how his life passed through the years, with Jimmy and Victor sharing many milestones depicting conflict/war for something like almost 2 centuries... We also saw Wolverine in the '70s ( First Class), the '80s and the far future which has been erased when Wolverine wakes up ( Days of Future Past), '80s to present day ( XMen 1/2/3), even Wolverine from World War 2 to near future (The Wolverine)...and there is the finality of LOGAN ( set in 2029). Hey, he was even Wolverine in the days of King Arthur ( Night at the Museum 3) Reincarnation is the only way to create a new Wolverine tale? Hugh has made such an indelible stamp on the film persona of Wolverine, that maybe they should give rest to all attempts to recast for a while and resurrect the issue many years from now … if comicbook movies are still the most favored genre then Jo

An attempt on social media to deceive Translation : The translation says that the photo of Hugh with Kevin Feige was taken just this last Friday. The facial hair on Hugh belies that-- he has just posted a photo of himself greeting Justin Timberlake at a JT concert in late January. Jo

There is one time period that has not been explained ( but referred to in LOGAN). What preceded the time frame where we see Logan and Professor X now living in that huge rusty water tank... and the Professor is now suffering from dementia. There is some reference from the Professor ( in his mutterings) about he himself possibly being responsible for the death of many XMen.
What happened during that time?
But if that is to be fleshed out in a prequel to LOGAN, all the more that the role should be played by Hugh Jackman!
Will Hugh ever reconsider his decision, if only for this tragedy that led to the sequel called LOGAN?
But on the other hand -- will the new owners of the franchise, DISNEY/MARVEL want to kill off many XMen characters, if they do want a continuity of the mutant franchise?

Can any replacement look as ferocious as this Wolverine ? In the same light, look as introspective when he partly loses his memory? Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was a dual portrait of a man who chose to be alone because he is haunted by memories... but can be extremely violent, without let-up to let loose the inner angst! He is a haunted man and he is a man who hunts his enemies! All these qualities came together in his valedictory in LOGAN - the haunted man who found final redemption by using violence to move the legend of the mutants to a hopeful future! Tom was actually instrumental in Hugh being signed up with CAA ( one of the largest talent agencies in Hollywood then...and where Patrick Whitesell was one of the top agents). It was Tom's strong recommendation which led to Hugh, who was a Hollywood nobody then, to being signed up with the famous talent agency! Eventually, his primary agent Patrick Whitesell would leave CAA and would take Hugh Jackman along with him to Endeavor ( which became WME... and reverted to the name Endeavor in the present day as its mother company). While looking for that news item -- I found this major ROLLING STONE feature article on Hugh Jackman written in August 2000! At that time, Hugh had just been introduced to the (adoring... after initially being very cynical) public in the first XMen movie! Presumably, this is the major article where many bits and pieces about Hugh have been quoted in succeeding articles up to now. www.rollingstone.com/movies/movie-news/x-posing-hugh-jackman-186735/.

Insights from Lauren Shuler Donner, producer of all XMen movies with Hugh Jackman in them. Ms. Donner first saw Hugh in London in OKLAHOMA! and was likely the one who pushed for his casting after Dougray Scott had to back out of the first XMen movie. www.slashfilm.com/x-men-in-the-mcu/

Hugh Jackman may have categorically said that LOGAN was the end of the road for his WOLVERINE career-defining role!
But I wonder if Kevin Feige ( Marvel Studio Chief who once worked with Hugh in the first 2 XMen movies) even sounded off Hugh about his decision on the Wolverine role? Or was this just a unilateral decision by Disney to replace him in the role? Social media reactions are categorically negative... and even say it is somewhat disrespectful to Hugh's XMen legacy to simply replace him within 2 years from his last Wolverine movie. Everyone knows what Hugh has done for the franchise and his farewell performance in LOGAN was universally lauded and given the rare critical near-perfect ratings.

Excellent perception of the characterization of the Wolverine character by Hugh Jackman! If I may add, there is also a hint of the angst from Wolverine of the violence in his character that he is saddled with.
Some people think that any replacement-actor should just echo the physical characteristics of Jackman... they forget that one has to be a very good actor, too! And deliver punch lines to a T!
