Hmmm...could this be an announcement of Hugh's possibly non-appearance? His name is conspicuously absent in this excerpt from the official press release, dated today. Bernadette Peters, also the recipient of a Special Tony, is included, however.
Could it be he doesn't know if he'll be able to make it? An appearance by satellite, perhaps? If his being there in person to accept were a certainty, I doubt the Wing would have lumped him into "among others.":
"Hosted by Emmy Award-winner Neil Patrick Harris, the evening will feature appearances by: Nick Jonas, Amanda Seyfried, Tyler Perry, Jessica Chastain, Jim Parsons, Paul Rudd, Ellen Barkin, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Candice Bergen, Christopher Plummer, James Marsden, Mandy Patinkin, Sheryl Crow, Trey Parker and Matt Stone among others."
Still, I'm hoping he'll be there in the aesthetically pleasing flesh.

In Neil Patrick Harris's commercial yesterday for the Tony's, there was a shot of him and Deb in the front row clapping. Do you think they would use that if he weren't going to be there? I was really looking forward to seeing him accept his award.

It looks like they are filming even on Saturdays now ...and there is some talk about delays in filming.
I guess we won't know until it is close to June 10.

Broadway World is running a clip a day of Tony Award winning musicals. broadwayworld.com/topic/2012-TONY-COUNTDOWNAs to Hugh's appearance - I can't imagine that he would miss it entirely which means either by film or in person. Crowe tweeted about some sort of major announcement but is being secretive. That may mean an appearance at the Queen's jubilee concert tomorrow.

Russell's latest tweets are broad hints about "Sue's Side" ( how he calls what happens to Javert at the end ) -- About a week or so ago...or maybe more, RC joined a concert onstage the Royal Albert Hall. Jo

Someone on another board had a thought that she might be asked to present Hugh's special TONY award to him. I did not think it would be such a great idea. No offense meant to Amanda, but she is not even a Broadway name and this is not a minor award. If there would be a special lady to do it, I hope they would think of someone as loved and as respected on Broadway as Angela Lansbury. That would make the award even more meaningful! But sometimes the TONY people do think of the most tenuous links to bring on celebrity presenters

NYT has a neat interactive feature on the Tonys with performances by several Broadway actors. There are silhouettes of those who will be added later, but I didn't see the one I was looking for. theater.nytimes.com/pages/theater/index.html

He's got to be there. This is a very special award. Don't you think that even if he is still filming, he'll hop a plane, and go right back? I'm really looking forward to seeing him. BOB, is getting to be a memory, and Houdini seems so far in the future. I'm really looking forward to Sunday!!!

Let's hope for the best, but we may have to be prepared to be disappointed -- check out this interview with TONY host Neil Patrick Harris: www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/neil-patrick-harris-tony-awards-broadway-334289quote: THR: Any chance of another Hugh Jackman face-off during the show this year? Harris: I believe that Hugh’s in London still filming Les Miserables. He was certainly my first reach-out because we had such fun doing last year’s number together. But scheduling-wise I don’t think it’s going to work out, which is a shame because he’s receiving an honorary Tony. But I think even that is going to have to be done via satellite or pretaped.Jo

Someone on the IMDB board has suggested that the presence of two Hollywood movie musicals names ( Hairspray's James Marden and Mamma Mia!'s Amanda Seyfried) among the presenters may have something to do with the announcement of the special TONY to Hugh -- maybe it could be a special tribute?
After all, Hugh could also promote Les Miserables when he does an acceptance speech --- so, I hope Tom Hooper can find a way to schedule the last filming days around Hugh's presence.

He would only have to swim half way since they are doing "Hairspray" from a cruise ship in the Atlantic. :-)

In a promo, host Harris mentions that he's one of the producers of this year's (and last year's, too) Tony ceremony. When Hugh hosts again (please), I wonder if he'll have a say as to opening number, etc., as a producer. He should.

Jo, I'm sincerely hoping he will sing a little something from Les Miserables especially for you! ;D You've let us in on so much research and back story regarding Les Mis and have loved this musical for years hoping Hugh would one day step into the shoes of Jean Valjean. You "dreamed a dream" and it has become a reality. I hope you get a taste of that dream on Sunday; that Hugh will bless your day! I'll be thinking of you if he does!

LOL - I don't mind if he keeps us guessing a little bit more We have heard him sing "2-4-6-0-1", unrehearsed, at the Toronto stagedoor and at the ComicCon. There were also some unrehearsed few notes/lyrics of "Who Am I" in a past Collider interview. To be honest - I would like to hear the iconic Valjean songs, first in a trailer (Who Am I ?) or if not, on a big screen inside a cinema. He never sang even a few notes at his one-man show, maybe because the producers and composers didn't want him to upstage the movie itself. I am alright with that. At the TONYs - if at all, it will probably be part of the ribbing he might get...but maybe he will resist the temptation. But he can still sing his acceptance speech - maybe to the tune of I Go To Rio, if Bring Him Home is verboten ;D Jo
