What are they reshooting, exactly?

Who knows - all we know is that it involves Hugh, Zac, Sam ( Tom Thumb), and maybe some background people ( or even singing-dancing extras -- because there was talk of the band getting back together - not sure about Keala, who posted the info on the band)). It took only 3 days, so it is likely polishing up shoots ( pickups/reshoots). There was an earlier few days reshoots sometime in August, if I am not mistaken). I guess this is part of the final edits/wrapping up process. Always happens especially for blockbuster-type films! Sounds like Michael Gracey is a meticulous director Jo

Re the post-production process -- from Wikipedia :
In the case of PAN, the studio (WB) postponed the movie release by 6 months because it seemed ( based on buzz) they were not too satisfied with the overall tone of the movie as directed by Joe Wright. They also replaced the music composer.

Sam Humphrey, the actor who plays Tom Thumb, is in this touching documentary on how someone born with a disability thinks beyond the limitations of his physicality (i.e., dwarfism). Now he is in a major film called THE GREATEST SHOWMAN! attitudelive.com/watch/Sam-in-Hollywood. It seems his modern-day story embodies one of the movie's central themes, that which hails how people who are different can find their place in society, in this particular case as guided by the entrepreneurial spirit of P.T.Barnum. It looks like THIS IS ME is not just a poignant song but offers the musical theme for being different and being special! Jo

The movie has been completed as it has already been rated by MPAA.

Jo, or anyone: any speculation about why the release date was changed? I'm puzzled.

I think that sometimes when the studio has confidence in a film, they move the holiday release forward to gain a larger audience. People are shopping and decide to go to a movie. On Christmas Day, audiences are spending part of the day with family and religious celebrations. Another reason could be that the producers don't want to compete with a new STAR WARS film. Just speculation on my part.

I have absolutely no idea!!Fox has two other releases close to SHOWMAN -- *Ferdinand (Animation) is on WIDE release on Dec 15 presumably as counterprogramming to STAR WARS. *The Post ( Spielberg/Hanks/Streep) an expected heavy contender for Oscar Best Picture is on LIMITED release on December 22. Wide release for the film in January 2018 ( maybe to catch any favorable box office impact of any nominations or maybe Golden Globe nods/wins -- just guessing!) ... EDIT: The wide release info in January ( or Feb/Mar) is no longer appearing on Box Office Mojo. The LIMITED release is still on December 22. I hope I am wrong, but are they moving GREATEST SHOWMAN to December 20 so the release of THE POST on December 22 could now be on WIDE basis, too? Or give THE POST a wide release on December 25? On the other hand, couldn't FOX simply increase the number of screens for THE POST so it can be given a wide release, without disturbing the schedule for SHOWMAN? Btw, two other Oscar baits, Phantom Thread ( DDLewis) and Molly's Game will be on LIMITED release on December 25. December 22 has 4 WIDE releases ( including one which has Michelle Williams as lead)! Rationality of release dates no longer puzzle me! Look at what happened to DEADPOOL ( released on Feb 14, 2016) and to the four March 2017 releases - GET OUT/ LOGAN/KONG/ BEAUTY AND THE BEAST -- they all swept at the box office! Unlike the summer season blockbusters this year which declined at the box office vis-à-vis the previous year's totals! La La Land was released more in the early months of 2017 and made a windfall after its near-win at the Oscars. Maybe the quality of the movie ( artistic quality/entertainment value/awards potentials/strong word of mouth/critic reviews) counts a lot more than what is assumed it does ( maybe because the indies were the typical awards winners in the past, and the public often scoff at arthouse fare ) Presumably, FOX knows what it is doing! Presumably they studied all the factors, test-checked potential responses, looked at empirical holiday box office performance, discussed it from all angles -- and made the decision! Presumably the change is to maximize box office results even further! I also see positive the fact that they can command the screens ( it is a dogfight to get them towards the last two months of the year) when they needed them! They did prepare for the flexibility. My one disappointment is that STAR WARS seem to have contracted all the IMAX screens available I would be worried if the change is to POSTPONE the opening date! This one is to MOVE IT UP to an earlier date. *The movie seems to have been completed. According to IMDB the movie has obtained an MPAA Rating ( PG). *We have not seen ( yet) the full publicity blast for the movie -- we know at least that there is one involving young pop stars gathered across the world... and there is the rumored tie-up when A CHRISTMAS STORY-LIVE has its telecast on December 18, if I am not mistaken...and that second trailer seems to be literally "trailing" ...behind *The preparations for premieres are underway. We do not know if the previously announced NYC Premiere for Dec 18 will still hold, given the announcement of the world premiere on board QueenMary2 sometime in December. We also do not know if there will be other premieres in key cities in the world ( Europe/Asia/SouthAmerica/Australia) or even in Hollywood? *The media tours/junkets will also have to be planned extensively, including on whether this will be confined to NYC or outside the USA. *Other collateral aspects ( soundtrack album, companion book, promos and tie-ins, etc.) could also be underway? * IF there is an awards campaign -- presumably they can meet all submission deadlines? Also, the release of screeners can also be underway ( Golden Globes have much earlier deadlines). Plus more screenings and Q&A's could be underway? But we do NOT know if a campaign is going to happen. Let's hope the film quality justifies one! *One key aspect -- I don't know but maybe, just maybe, they already have some indications of critical reactions to the movie and they may want to have reviews released earlier to encourage a more expanded holiday viewing! JUST GUESSING here I have not seen any update (yet) on all the FOX related sites about the change in release date -- although they are quite notorious about online updates. Box Office Mojo is the most reliable source of any changes in release dates and they make the updates based on official communications from the distributor ( in this case, FOX). I have checked again if BOM has not updated any further -- it seems DECEMBER 20 is the date! www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=&release=&date=2017-12-01&showweeks=5&p=.htmBut to be honest -- I have no idea! I do not want to fret over it -- maybe the change is a positive sign All I want is to see the movie become a crowd-pleaser!! I do not want to think about awards possibilities strongly anymore -- if it comes, fine! If not -- this has been a passion project of Hugh Jackman since 2009 -- at that time, his dream was simply to get a good movie musical done, given the risk-averse attitude towards the genre and his own expressed reservations about musicals! That dream is happening -- and I am happy for Hugh!Let's cross our fingers Jo

Err... Kathy -- they are actually timing the new release date closer to the STAR WARS release date. But I guess they have already taken that into consideration and they think they are coming out net positive Jo

Hmmm... I changed this part of my earlier post, with an EDIT portion, re the change in release schedule -- I think I definitely saw the January WIDE release info on Box Office Mojo earlier. Otherwise I wouldn't have put that info in my earlier post. Now, there is No WIDE release info re THE POST anymore for the early months of 2018. What remains is the LIMITED release for December 22. Hope they are not planning to re-assign screens intended for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN to THE POST ( which is heavily being bruited about as a strong Oscar contender). Wouldn't it have been more practical to simply assign more screens for THE POST so it can be on WIDE release)? December releases -- www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=&release=&date=2017-12-01&showweeks=5&p=.htmJanuary releases -- www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=&release=&date=2018-01-05&showweeks=4&p=.htmFebruary releases -- www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=&release=&date=2018-02-02&showweeks=4&p=.htmI am also a little confused why FOX has not made any official announcements -- *Re the change in release date for SHOWMAN. Box Office Mojo only changes its release schedule if the info comes directly from the distributor. *Is Fox thinking of making a simultaneous announcement re release info for SHOWMAN and THE POST? *I am also wondering why FOX has not made any announcements on the advance release of 2 tracks from the soundtrack... or mention that the album is now on pre-order basis? Something does not compute ! Or could BOX OFFICE MOJO simply have messed up their published film schedules?? Hope I am just being paranoid...and am completely wrong! I hope I am just reading too much into it! Jo

There are 4 wide releases 2 days after THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ( and JUMANJI) -- one of them ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD, directed by Ridley Scott, has Michelle Williams in a lead role. The story is about the famous Getty grandson kidnapping. The actor who plays the miserly grandfather Jean Paul Getty ( then richest man in the world) is KEVIN SPACEY. Will the current scandal about Spacey affect the movie's release or box office reception? One of the Weinstein movies was CURRENT WAR with Benedict Cumberbatch, with supposed Oscar potential, has already been pulled out of its late 2017 release date...and moved to sometime in 2018. ALL THE MONEY is supposed to close a late year festival ( AFI) but according to festival sources, it will go ahead with the screening. The studio could not be reached for comment. There is some talk about another compelling Michelle Williams performance which could catch Oscar attention, as well as from Spacey's portrayal. deadline.com/2017/10/all-the-money-in-the-world-kevin-spacey-sex-scandal-film-release-date-unchanged-1202198045/The landscape is changing.
