Peter O'Toole has died. He was 81. cry2 My heart is broken. He was a true treasure. NY Times has a nice article, which you can find if you just search Peter O'Toole's name. I tried to link it here, but it keeps diverting to a subscription page. Info and some video at CNNMore... and some great photos, here.Still one of my all time favorite movie lines: "I'm not an actor... I'm a Movie Star!" (totally untrue - but SO well delivered) I can only raise a glass of whiskey and offer an old Irish blessing... "May you have love and raiment And a soft pillow for your head And may you spend forty years in heaven Before the devil knows you're dead."

I just read that Peter O'Toole has died at the age of 81. He was a wonderful actor, and so many of the roles he played were memorable. I will never forget him in Lawrence of Arabia. He was so strikingly handsome in that film that I sometimes had difficulty focusing on the story. His performance in My Favorite Year is one of my favorites; he was definitely not cast against type in that one. Rest in peace, Peter. Carol

Yes, most of the news reports describe him as best remembered for LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, but it's his Errol Flynn-ish comic characterization of Alan Swann in MY FAVORITE YEAR that stands out for me. My second favorite: His King Henry II in BECKET.

He was excellent especially in period pieces! My special memories are for Becket, Lion in Winter, and Lawrence of Arabia. Many musical theatre fans did not like the film adaptation of Man of La Mancha ( which Musical Theatre fan is ever satisfied with film adaptations smiley-rolleyes010 ) -- but I still look at my copy of the DVD once in a while. Loved him and Sophia ( Dulcinea) in this filmization of one of my favorite musicals!
