Paul McCartney has cancelled his 2020 tour:

FRESHEN UP EUROPEAN SUMMER TOUR CANCELLED

Due to the current global situation Paul and his team have been forced to cancel the forthcoming European tour dates. Given current and future work commitments it has not been possible to find alternative dates.

“We were looking forward to seeing you all this summer for what we know would have been much fun. The band and I are so sorry we can’t be with you, but these are unprecedented times and the wellbeing and safety of everyone is the priority. International Beatleweek in August in Liverpool (England) has cancelled. What a bummer! Now I have to get refunds/vouchers for hotels and flights and reschedule for 2021. Was so looking forward to going again. 😢

Astrid Kirchherr, photographer of the Beatles, dies at 81

Astrid Kirchherr, the German photographer who shot some of the earliest and most striking images of the Beatles and had a lasting impact on their visual style, has died at age 81.

She died Wednesday in her native Hamburg, days before her 82nd birthday. Her death was first announced by Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn, who tweeted Friday that Kirchherr made an “immeasurable” contribution to the group and was “intelligent, inspirational, innovative, daring, artistic, awake, aware, beautiful, smart, loving and uplifting.” According to the German publication Die Zeit, she died of a “short, serious illness.”

Kirchherr was a photographer’s assistant in Hamburg and part of the local art scene in 1960 when her then-boyfriend Klaus Voormann dropped in at a seedy club, the Kaiserkeller, and found himself mesmerized by a young British rock group. The five raw musicians from Liverpool had recently named themselves the Beatles.

Yes, I was sad to hear this yesterday. She passed on the 12th, 8 days shy of her 82nd birthday. R.I.P. Astrid.
The guy in the background of both those photos is Stu Sutcliffe, the Beatles’ first bass player, who Astrid fell in love with. He stayed in Hamburg and they were to be married, but he sadly died of a brain hemorrhage in Apr. 1962 at age 21. She gave him the first Beatle haircut and later a friend Jurgen Vollmer gave John & Paul theirs and George followed suit. Her original boyfriend was Klaus Voormann who drew the cover of the Beatles’ album “Revolver” and later played bass in John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band and also on his album “Imagine.” I met Klaus in Liverpool during Beatleweek 2016 and got him to sign the cover of my original mono 1966 Revolver LP.

. . . in the past 25 years or so, he has often talked about the band – or, more specifically, his friends John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – with the same enthusiasm his fans always have. However, even I was surprised by how willingly he volunteered stories about The Beatles when I interviewed him recently. The success of Craig Brown’s recent (and highly entertaining) book One Two Three Four: The Beatles In Time demonstrates the continued fascination with the most important group in pop. And listening to Paul McCartney talk in 2020, it would be easy to believe that he is the biggest Beatles fan of them all.

Today is the 51st anniversary of the Beatles last photoshoot at John’s estate, Tittenhurst Park, on Aug. 22, 1969. Linda McCartney would give birth to her and Paul’s first child, Mary (named after Paul’s mother who died when he was 14) six days later.

Swift listened to McCartney III as she prepared for today’s conversation; McCartney delved into Folkore. Before the photo shoot, Swift caught up with his daughters Mary (who would be photographing them) and Stella (who designed Swift’s clothes; the two are close friends). “I’ve met Paul a few times, mostly onstage at parties, but we’ll get to that later,” Swift writes. “Soon he walks in with his wife, Nancy. They’re a sunny and playful pair, and I immediately feel like this will be a good day. During the shoot, Paul dances and takes almost none of it too seriously and sings along to Motown songs playing from the speakers. A few times Mary scolds, ‘Daaad, try to stand still!’ And it feels like a window into a pretty awesome family dynamic. We walk into his office for a chat, and after I make a nervous request, Paul is kind enough to handwrite my favorite lyric of his and sign it. He makes a joke about me selling it, and I laugh because it’s something I know I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. That’s around the time when we start talking about music.”
