I saw this yesterday with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not a big Disney or Poppins fan. I hadn't read much about it. It was sort of a "default" choice among the group (no interest in Anchorman, American Hustle, animated kids' films - and sadly disappointed by the first installment of The Hobbit - our other options). We were all pleasantly surprised, quite possibly because no one had any "expectations" going into it. Tom Hanks was a delight. Emma Thompson was enthralling (I like her anyway) as the meticulous curmudgeon author who has a vision for Mary Poppins which no one else can see. Colin Farrell (the focus of her "vision") gives a wonderful performance as... well, I'm not going to give that away.
There is more depth here than the trailer would lead you to believe. It is not a "behind the scenes" "making of" the Mary Poppins movie. I was unaware of this "back-story" which is geared more to adults than children. This film is worth a few bucks and a couple hours of your time IMHO.

This has been on my must see list all year. Haven't had a chance to see it yet but I was very happy to see your "review" Valerie. Makes me want to see it even more now. Thanks. Sue
