Not about the concert -- but I caught the tailend of the BBC coverage of the luncheon/dinner at the Westminster Hall.
As the Queen walked out with her royal entourage -- guess what the orchestra was playing? A very familiar melody which is supposed to be the courtship song of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Yes, it was PEOPLE WILL SAY WE'RE IN LOVE!
Had Hugh been watching ( he is in London after all), he would have smiled...or was he on filming duties?

Here's a video I hope will be seen tomorrow night on ABC: Wow, that was great! If only something like that had been in the PBS show. I watched parts of the ABC program. Didn't see this but there were lots of amazing performers and a couple less than amazing. I was surprised at how many Americans there were in the show including Keith Lockhart conducting! :o Just struck me as odd for the Queens Jubilee that they would have an American conductor and so many American performers. So why wasn't one Australian invited to sing People Will Say We're In Love???

Renee Fleming, and I think Will I Am. Kylie Minogue was there as well -- isn't she Australian? Birchie, unfortunately, ABC didn't see fit to show an American Soprano singing with a British Tenor a well-known song from a classic American Musical. > You might like this one too. This is from earlier in the evening:

The one I was most surprised by was Keith Lockhart. I'm sure they have great conductors in the UK! Yes, I think Kylie is Australian. I'm glad I have that video of Renee & Alfie that was outstanding. Thanks for this one too. This was a much better rendition of O Solo Mio than the one on PBS. It was one of the things I liked on the PBS show but the transition to the rock, It's Now Or Never part wasn't as good.

According to this article, cincinnati.com/blogs/arts/2012/06/01/keith-lockhart-to-lead-televised-concert-for-queens-diamond-jubilee/ Lockhart has been the Principal Conductor for the BBC Concert Orchestra since 2010. Interestingly enough, Alfie toured with Lockhart and the Boston Pops after he finished his run in Bz Luhrman's La Boheme in I think 2004. Alfie's featured on one of the Boston Pops Christmas cds. As for the O Sole Mio/Now or Never at the Jubilee, it really is amazing how far he's come since the London concert. He was fantastic in Kansas city, but he didn't do the kind of moves he did at the Jubilee!!! He just gets better and better.
