Late last year, we suffered one of the most devastating natural calamities in history in one of our island regions. People around the world responded with such generosity. And the effort of rehabilitation and aid-giving re Typhoon Haiyan ( aka Yolanda in our shores) continues. A few weeks ago, I ran into a former boss whom I had not seen in over a decade. He mentioned casually that he was in town re a benefit concert for the typhoon rehabilitation efforts. He mentioned Lea Salonga among others as concert performer. I didn't realize it was going to be at Kennedy Center - but as he is now the Philippine ambassador to the USA, the venue now made sense to me. BWW has uploaded this YouTube clip of Lea singing with another famous singer ( part of Filipino ancestry), Darren Criss, as they sing together " A Whole New World" from Aladdin. Lea famously sang this at the Oscars for the animation movie some years ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bEk1l8ryeMYou can watch the duet at around 2'35" The man who was causing a comical distraction was Lou Diamond Philips, also of part Filipino parentage, who was MC for the evening. Btw, as I watched the musical number from Aladdin at the Tonys, I realized that another singer/actor who has part Filipino roots was playing the role of Aladdin ( Adam Jacobs). Jo
