Very insightful and leaves a lot to think about -- don't miss listening to this one!
This insight makes it even easier to appreciate the persona that is Hugh Jackman! He continues to grow as a person and as a professional maybe because he has these insights and the technique to continue on his own road to self-discovery. "To thine own self, be true" borrowed from Shakespeare is, I think, another way of paraphrasing what he is practicing. Hugh is a very wise person!
On a personal level, many decades ago when I was a young professional working for one of the most stressful organizations ( investment and commercial banking), our President happened to be one of the most intelligent men I have ever met. He organized for the executive staff a program which he said would blend " Western pragmatism and Eastern mysticism" which would enhance creativity and tap positive energy within an organizational context... and had professionals on the subject introduce us to the background on transcendental meditation. I do remember about how a scenario can begin ( "Think of a meadow", in Hugh's example it is " Think of the calm of the waves when it settles down") and then how a mantra is developed for us... Unfortunately, like many young people, I was quite cynical about it and did not progress to the next steps ( some did go into "yoga"). But I guess one learns the hard way. How to combat stress (which Hugh and Bob talk about) is really all about how to live a better and more meaningful life.
Re Oscar -- he is lucky to have parents like Hugh and Deb who have encouraged and led him to what will likely be a full life in all aspects.
I wonder - how much of this knowledge can help not just emotional and mental wellness but also physical well-being, especially in later years when health becomes a real concern?

Yes, that was a fascinating and revelatory interview. Thanks, Valerie. I wonder if Ava will eventually develop those interests, as Oscar has. It's amazing, with his full schedule, that Hugh has the time to devote to TM. More power to him.

I think Hugh has said more than once how " quieting the mind" has actually helped him with his busy and stressful career. Ava, he says, is like a little Deb - very gregarious and full of life. Oscar ( "Oski-Yogi" ) sounds more introspective for a young kid and Hugh must see a little bit of him when he was young ( although Hugh seemed to have had a more athletic and more fun childhood), touched a bit by sadness in both their young lives. I hope I am not being intrusive, but I wonder if Oscar was introduced to the practice when he was young and having had to cope to the extent that he knew or was told about the tragedy about his biological mother.
