People seem to have a lot of mixed feelings about seeing all the celebs and sports figures doing these videos. While I have seen a couple of frivolous ones that seem to be done more to get publicity than for the charitable intent, most have been in the right spirit. The best ones are the ones that emphasize the donation aspect involved in this project. One of the founders of the event was Corey Griffin a young man from the Boston area who did it for his friend who suffers from ALS. Sadly, Corey died last week in a freak accident. This was a young man forged from the same stuff as our Hugh from everything I've seen. A short article & longer obit: www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2014/08/16/nantucket/ARfxvkOvbjsJ1QiGfPfv4L/story.htmlwww.bostonglobe.com/metro/obituaries/2014/08/19/corey-griffin-left-his-mark-everything-from-friendship-philanthropy/ahbexfXQNqgIbaWTJ3nEtN/story.htmlWhile a lot of the videos have been fun to watch and some cleverly done, I saw one today which completely brings home the real importance of this challenge. I encourage you all to watch it. The first 2 minutes are all for fun but please watch the whole video. It made me cry and made me more than ever want to keep tweeting about some of the good videos that celebs are doing, as well as to make a donation of my own. I was appalled at some of the stupid to borderline evil comments that some people wrote on the YouTube page. This was a courageous video and demonstrates what the challenge is really all about: For Jo: In case you didn't see this, I thought you might enjoy watching your country woman doing her part for ALS too! Thanks, Sue.
Some of the names she challenged are from here -- that could lead to more international responses to this fundraising and awareness campaign for this disease. Btw, Darren Criss from GLEE is half-Filipino.

I'm sure there are many countries that haven't been touched by the disease, it may be more of a westernized thing. It is sad that they have such a hard time raising funds to get research done. I salute all who are doing the challenge and making donations. Sue

Ben Stiller, Tiger Woods and quite a number of athletes have challenged Rafa Nadal to participate in the Ice Bucket/ALS campaign -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDLfHMVUwGQ&feature=youtu.beRafa was game enough - but the irony is that Rafa has withdrawn from the coming US Tennis Open (where he is the defending champion) because of a right wrist injury from which he has not fully recovered. The black splint on his right wrist ( he uses his right hand to throw the ball when serving and for double-handed backhands) is to give it protection while he is recovering - hopefully there is no harm done when he raised the large bucket over his head to draw down the water. Tiger Woods and new golf favorite Rory McLlroy also took their challenges -- nesn.com/2014/08/tiger-woods-rory-mcilroy-take-als-ice-bucket-challenge-together-video/It looks like the sportsmen are doing their part of the campaign now.
