I didn't realize she is still alive - this must be such a pleasure for her. The book was written from the point of view of Scout as an adult woman. Hope we get it over here soon, too.

Just read an article about this book. It was written before MOCKINGBIRD, but the publisher convinced Harper Lee to write a prequel which became TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. I also worry that she is too old and infirm to give her permission for publishing this book. Exploitation by publishers, perhaps? Even so, I can't wait to read the only other book by the author of my favorite book of all time. My little dog "Atticus", rest his soul, was the love of my life for 16 years, and he was named after the greatest hero in American literature. I hope this newly discovered work does justice to the original classic.

I'm sure studios may already be hovering for a possible film adaptation. If so -- I wonder if the Atticus role would fit in with any Hugh Jackman career directions in the future. He does look somewhat like Gregory Peck Who could be the grown up Scout ? Well, Amanda Seyfried played his daughter in Les Miserables. Someone suggested Ellen Page ( in a match up with Hugh) for the film adaptation -- she looks young but isn't she already around 30? We don't know yet if the book is about Scout in her early adulthood or later. And does Atticus play an important part in this sequel. Lol - sorry for getting ahead Jo

I mistakenly posted this sad news earlier today on the thread about Hugh as possible Atticus in a stage production of MOCKINGBIRD. Forgot about this thread.
Too bad she wasn't more prolific. But what she did produce, to quote Spencer Tracy in PAT AND MIKE, "is cherce."
