'I'm so thrilled': Hugh Jackman's wife Deborra-Lee Furness ecstatic over new government rules that will make Australian international adoptions easier

International adoption campaigner Deborra-Lee Furness says she is ‘one happy camper’ after the Australian government announced plans to cut red tape around overseas adoptions.

The Aussie actress, 58, has two adopted children with actor Hugh Jackman, 45, and is a fierce campaigner for the streamlining of international adoptions.

‘I’m so thrilled that this government is honouring their commitment,’ Deborra-Lee said on Today this morning.

The Clintons are deploying a bit of Hollywood celebrity to raise money for the family’s charitable foundation, with the husband-and-wife acting team of Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness headlining an upcoming fundraising dinner.

The event benefiting the Clinton Foundation will take place on May 1 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, a copy of the invitation shows.

Donors get a series of perks depending on how much they give, according to the invitation.

A $2,500 contribution gets them into the reception and dinner and earns them the title of “Friend.”

For a $100,000 donation, a donor becomes an “Event Chair.” He or she also gets a table for 10 and an invitation to an “exclusive chairs reception with the Clintons and the Jackmans,” the invitation shows.

Down the road, the six-figure donors also get to go to the Clinton Foundation’s “annual briefing” in June and the “annual retreat” in November.

“This is sure to be a memorable event and all ticket sales will benefit the Clinton Foundation’s ongoing work to improve global health and wellness, increase opportunity for women and girls, reduce childhood obesity, create economic opportunity and growth, and help communities address the effects of global climate change,” reads a letter from a foundation official accompanying the invitation...

Didn't Deb travel with the Clinton group to Africa last year, to pursue certain advocacies?

Wow that is some statement! If you're referring to the Clintons, I follow all of them on twitter and all they ever talk about is charitable works and helping others. They raised an incredible daughter who never seems to think about herself at all but only talks about good, helping those in need & what the foundation is doing. Deb spent a lot of time with the foundation during her trip to Africa and I'm sure she witnessed first hand the good that they are doing.

Agreed. The Clinton foundation has raised millions of dollars which have gone to improve the lives of people both in this country and and in other parts of the world. Hugh and Deb's involvement has likely come about as a result of her recent trip to Africa with the foundation. They are all to be commended for their efforts.

This morning I heard Hilary Clinton, Melinda Gates, and Chelsea Clinton speak at a lecture in New York. It was so inspiring to hear them talk about their initiative to empower women and girls globally!

A huge part of solving the global orphan crisis is to implement programs that support, encourage and enable women to take on parenthood.

So lucky to have had the pleasure of travelling with Chelsea last year, here's a pic of us in Zambia.

Looks like Hollywood hunk Hugh Jackman is preparing for some charitable giving. The Wolverine star and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, established the Jackman Furness Foundation just last week, according to documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Will the foundation be focusing its projects only in Australia or will it have a wider reach?

Hugh Jackman will return to Perth next month to launch a foundation to raise money for the star academy where his career began 20 years ago.

The Wolverine and Les Miserables star, his wife and fellow actor Deborra-lee Furness and Australian screen legend Jack Thompson are leading the push to support the WA Academy of Performing Arts

The Jackman Furness Foundation for the Performing Arts, with Thompson as founding patron, has a goal of raising at least $10 million over the next four years to support the academy and other WA performance entities.

Jackman, a 1994 WAAPA graduate, will host a cabaret performance for invited guests at the academy on May 17 to launch and raise support for the foundation.

“Deborra-lee and Hugh are both passionate about supporting the performing arts, and excited to be launching their foundation in Perth where Hugh’s career began,” foundation trustee Geoff Michael said.

Mr Michael said the foundation would support the performing arts through a range of initiatives which would be announced at the launch.

Thompson and Jackman hatched the plan to support WAAPA, a school of Edith Cowan University, while filming Australia in the Kimberley in 2007.

Thompson’s son Bill graduated from WAAPA last year.

Thompson has said he hoped the foundation could help plug the gap between WAAPA’s Federal and State funding and what it needed to train its music, drama, dance and design students.

On his last visit to Perth in 2006 as the star of the arena musical The Boy From Oz, Jackman ran a workshop at WAAPA and attended a ceremony to rename its main theatre after his friend and mentor the late Geoff Gibbs.

“We greatly appreciate his generosity for some 20 years now, in supporting WAAPA, the school from which his stellar career was launched in 1994,” ECU vice-chancellor Kerry Cox said.

“This new foundation for the performing arts is yet another example of the deep commitment he has to his roots,” Professor Cox said.

Neither Thompson nor Jackman could be contacted for comment.

An ECU report said in 2012 that WAAPA needed an urgent overhaul and $3.75 million extra in government funding.

*It looks like this is going to be an Australian support institution for the arts.

*The premiere of XMEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST in Melbourne will be on May 16. The special cabaret will be held the following day, May 17.

Hugh is coping with an unbelievable schedule these days --

*Promoting DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, including the worldwide premieres rollout of the movie ( he is confirmed for NYC, London, Singapore, Melbourne)

*Probably doing some early work for the TONYs. He has to learn some production numbers, too.

*Preparing for his filming sequences for PAN ( shooting in England)

*Attending to his advocacies ( such as the Clinton reception, the Harlem Village Academies affair...and the Perth gala for the Jackman Furness Foundation).


In all these, one can see his enthusiasm as he appears in public. I wonder what is in store for the NYC premiere of Days of Future Past where a special number/greeting with Hugh has been announced ( is he going to do a meet and greet with the fans?). He continues to do his homework for the TONYs - he has seen AFTER MIDNIGHT, BEAUTIFUL, ALL THE WAY, etc...Be interesting to know if he is also planning to see Hedwig and Les Miserables before the TONYs

The Kelly and Michael show was in progress when I turned on the TV this morning, and Michael was talking about being a moderator at the Clinton Global Initiative benefit yesterday. Kelly asked, "How did Deb do? Deb and Hugh?" and said that she had been very nervous for her. Michael said, "She did great!"
