Highlights --
*The concert overran -- from the initial 4 hours schedule to slightly more than 5 hours. Compared to the past concerts the performers performed more than 2-3 songs. Rock and pop music prevailed- to the delight of the relatively young crowd.
*Special surprise guests who performed towards the end -- to the delight of the crowds -- were rock superstars Chris Martin (Coldplay) & Ed Sheeran!
*Probably the most popular pop artist - Thai BLACKPINK rapper and singer, Lisa.
*Rain was intermittent. Even Hugh had to carry an umbrella occasionally.
*Special guests came from different specific advocacies.
*Interesting appearances -- Personal appearance by European Comission President Ursula von der Leyen ( friend of Hugh) who pledged approx $ 800 Million from the EU for two specific advocacies.
*Well appreciated was the appearance of 90-yr old Jane Goodall whose lifetime work with animals in Africa ( especially the chimpanzees) has been well-noted universally.
*The football ( soccer) community through FIFA pledged a 4-year partnership with Global Citizen to bring to the USA a special championship World Cup to be played in American cities ( with the finals in NY-NJ at the Metlife ).
*Interesting appearance by the Pacific islanders ( Micronesia) whose homes are now disappearing due to climate change.
*Each advocacy was emphasized over and over.
*Of special interest to me personally was the appearance of someone who talked about the importance of a free press in today's world. She was Maria Ressa, the first Nobel Peace Laureate from the Philippines, for her work in journalism in an ever-changing and more difficult environment for truthful journalism..
*Hugh Evans & Hugh Jackman appeared together.
It is turning out that this advocacy is Hugh's most important and most meaningful work for others. Not many realize that he is not only a Global Brand Ambassador & regular host to the Central Park Festival ( since 2012) but it has been shared in the past that the early seeds of the movement were first discussed at his Perry St place. In effect, he is a founding member!
