Just finished watching the DVD! It's just over 2 hrs and I enjoyed it. Of course you all know what the best part is right??? Richard is very good with the audience and tells stories which I always enjoy hearing from performers on stage. I thought the girl he found on YouTube was so so. Poor JC Chasez only go like half a song...but a long story preceding it. Richard's friend Matt Scannell was up front for a number then played with the band for the rest of the show. Don't know if everyone saw the video of Hugh & Richard and Matt driving to the show. It's cute & funny and here if you missed it: youtu.be/BULfcJaa4fII have to say in a completely non-prejudiced way that the energy level in the theater visibly rose about 1000% when Hugh came on. Richard gave him a very nice intro and they did The Letter then To Where You Are (track 14&15). Both were much better on the DVD than the ones that were on YouTube. I'll be replaying those tracks often. ;D I forgot to mention I was especially struck by how green Hugh's eyes looked in the closeups! :o Just beautiful!

Just so people know, the PBS version runs under an hour while the DVD runs over 2 hours. And the PBS version cuts out "To Where You Are" (which I totally did not know Richard Marx wrote), playing only "The Letter."

It seems lately that you only get half the show when something is made for one of these PBS pledge shows! Same with the recent Alfie Boe PBS show. I guess it's a good showcase for performers who may be touring etc. I have to admit it's how I discovered certain groups like Celtic Thunder & Straight No Chaser and it may be that some folks will re-discover Richard Marx and have a chance to say "I didn't know Wolverine could sing"! Then a few more folks will be interested in seeing Les Miserables when it opens. It's all good!!!!!!!!!

I guess that's good, but now that I have the combo set, I think Hugh's voice is heard to much better advantage in "To Where You Are.". Too bad those who see only the truncated TV version won't experience his soulful version of the Groban hit.

It is going to be a long wait before my order from Amazon arrives ... but --
In 2004, when TBFO was on its last legs, we were anticipating the solo Hugh Jackman album that he and Richard were planning to release. From what we could gather then, some songs had already been recorded ( if I recall right, it included SMILE)...but somehow the plans were shelved for that album. When Hugh and Richard met up again ( when Hugh was filming Real Steel and they had sung together at Joe's Bar, if I recall right...then later on, when Richard helped put together the one-man show in San Fran), it meant that Hugh wanted to sing pop songs again.
So, finally, his participation in this latest Marx album/televised show!
That was quite a wait...compared to the snail mail pace for the arrival of my order ;D

". . .Marx, a down-to-earth Chicagoan, is happy to chat about everything from his Twitter beef with American Airlines (he’s an amusing follow @richardmarx) to his wife of 23 years, Cynthia Rhodes (“I married way out of my league,” he said) to his friendship with Hugh Jackman, who appears on Marx’s latest album, the live, “A Night Out with Friends,” released last month. . ." Q. Hugh Jackman is on “A Night Out with Friends.” How do you know him?
A. I met him when he was doing ‘The Boy from Oz’ on Broadway. They brought me in as a possibility to do some songs for an album he was working on. I pulled the plug on it because he was fried at the time, but we loved hanging out together.
