Found this while looking for something else -- but a detailed, near-exhaustive, account of Hugh Jackman's professional career... with some sharp insights... written during the award-season and when he received a nomination for Les Miserables. www.denofgeek.com/movies/hugh-jackman-movie-star-song-and-dance-man-mutant-superhero/A few things the author missed that have also marked great success in shaping Hugh Jackman's career -- *that he has been recognized for his dramatic ability in a gritty, inner-city look of Sydney, in ERSKINVILLE KINGS for which Hugh received an acting award ( Pre-OKLAHOMA!) *OKLAHOMA! played in London for a full year. It was where XMen producer Lauren Shuler Donner ( who would eventually produce all of Hugh's Wolverine movies, up to LOGAN) first saw Hugh Jackman perform. When Dougray Scott missed the deadline for reporting to the first XMen movie, LSDonner suggested that they "bring in Hugh" for the role! *The tremendous success of his Opening Number in the 2009 OSCARS. It is mentioned but seemingly in passing. *He failed to mention that Hugh won an EMMY for hosting the 2004 TONYs. His gift for hosting is rarely shared with other major film stars who are also known for their range. The author was confident that Hugh will get another Oscar nomination. Too bad that has not happened to this day. His strong performances in PRISONERS, LOGAN and THE GREATEST SHOWMAN have all been ignored for acting honors...and his very strong chance for it ( thru BAD EDUCATION) was rendered lost by the sale of distribution rights to HBO. He did get an EMMY nomination for acting honors. That is what we have waited for most - a chance to win an Oscar, to complete his EGOT stature. Jo

A wonderful read, even if it missed a few items and got a thing or two wrong, such as citing that HJ won the Olivier for OKLAHOMA!. He was nominated, but alas, he did not win. It’s so wonderful to read all those glowing adjectives about HJ’s formidable, unmatched range of talents. I truly hope there’s a big fat, juicy Oscar-bait role lined up for him in the near future.

Hugh is not usually identified with the COMEDY genre, but he has turned in some subtle comedic performances in movies like
*Kate and Leopold *Real Steel *Eddie The Eagle *Bad Education
And in the early part of A STEADY RAIN he was quite boisterous as the rogue alpha male cop Denny.
He usually has a subtle way of delivering this kind of portrayals!

He was also a credible near-father figure to Marius (Les Miserables) and to Eddie The Eagle. Or like his relationship to Rogue in the first XMen movie?
Maybe it is the air of self-confidence that he seems to assume which enhances the portrayal?

Let's guess
XMen - 3 claws Wolverine - white claw Logan - claw Les Miserables - "24601" & candlesticks Prisoners - red whistle Happy Feet - penguin head Bad Education - charcoal drink Prestige - hats on the ground Australia - windmill Greatest Showman - tophat/red coat/gold braid(On Zac's coat)
Haven't figured out Chappie & Eddie the Eagle

Saying that Hugh deserved an Oscar nomination better than Rami Malek! The AMPAS gives awards to actors in quirky roles, sometimes to an actor who is known for portraying only one celebrated role (usually because it's the theme of the moment or simply for mimicry of real-life persona) & not for his body of work Benigni, Jujardin, Whitaker, Redmayne, McConaughey, Malek. Even JPhoenix (Joker) and Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour, as Churchill) made full use of makeup and prosthetics... when they are better known for their acting skills in dramatic movies. Jo

This was from 2019 -- but many will agree with the choices. www.cinemablend.com/news/2481438/6-hugh-jackman-movies-that-prove-he-is-more-than-wolverineMany fans will argue strongly that THE GREATEST SHOWMAN deserved to be in the list. How many other action or dramatic actors can handle the role of PTBarnum as Hugh Jackman did and draw the kind of appeal that the movie did? Maybe raise the number to SEVEN Non-Wolverine Movies that speaks of his acting and performing ability and cinematic presence! Jo

Mishay Petronelli liked your reply Lol - onstage, he lifts the ladies effortlessly ( Josefina G/ Mishay) while on screen, he carries the men in his arms ( Patrick S/ EddieR/ ZacE) 🤣

Tweeted by someone who admires Hugh --
Hugh's voice when acting or performing (speaking or singing) goes through different ranges. I wonder if this is something learned from drama school...and voice teachers?
Yet his regular speaking voice is also different -- must be the Aussie accent that gives it a bit of drawl-ish lilt?

I just rewatched this interview by an Australian media personality, in Sydney ( circa filming of The Wolverine) and NYC.
Because they seemed to be good friends or acquiantances with her, the Jackmans, particularly Hugh was speaking very naturally. I never realized that Hugh has this deep natural speaking voice (having seen him on film and stage using varying tones). And when he sings - it is not the deep baritone one hears but what he describes as high baritone ( or close to tenor range). I also wonder that when he performs on stage, that he tends to speak a higher speaking range to project his voice out into the audience?

Translated from Arabic by GOOGLE It was not even intended that these diametrically opposite types of movies would be released in the same year. But it is true that Hugh was working on both projects one after another ( IIRC, he took only slightly over a month break after Logan filming ended... and he moved on to start rehearsals for The Greatest Showman). While he was working on Logan ( especially in New Orleans) he was helping in pre-production for GreatestShowman by doing screen testing with actresses ( quite a few) for the roles of Charity and Jenny. That both turned out to be such successes and such audience pleasers must give Hugh a great deal of satisfaction that he can deliver on two different kinds of acting/performing talent in equal measure! Versatility and excellence in different acting challenges should be what should win Oscars! Not mimickry or hysterical portrayals or even by the color of one's skin! Sorry, but the AMPAS seems to be going not in the direction of true artistry! Jo

As part of his personal discipline, Hugh would always be extra careful not to have any health threats when he is doing Broadway. I think this was when he was doing The Boy From Oz. In wintertime or when the weather got cold, he would always wear some form of headgear and a muffler around his neck. He never missed a TBFO performance for its year-long run. Jo
