I have already placed my order with Amazon I think they are trying to catch the holiday gift-giving season, albeit it is a bit late. But as a last-minute gift/stocking stuffer, maybe the timing is still pretty good. My copy of the CD of the film score has arrived -- I ordered it as soon as I heard the gorgeous film scoring presented on the official site of the movie. Hey, now I can hear Hugh sing pop ( Nirvana) Jo

My daughter got me the Blu-ray for Christmas and my Mom and I are going over to Lauren's house Monday to watch it. She has a huge TV/movie theater set-up in her basement! Bring on the popcorn! Nancy

Amazon shipped out my special edition copy on Dec 22 but it won't arrive here till late January Check out the summary of reviews from people who bought it at Amazon -- An average rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars ( or 70% approval rating) is probably the general consensus of people who have seen it - which is probably more like it. Take out the "critics", the "trolls" on IMDB and other sites, the Peter Pan purists, and people who were decided to dislike it even before seeing it and this is likely the real rating with folks. Btw, one of the stocking stuffers for our young relative who saw it with me ( 14 yo) was a China unofficial copy ( which I promised will be replaced by the real thing once I get one for her). She showed unexpected delight when she saw it...equaled only by her delight at getting a book classic called THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK! Jo

EDIT : SPOILER ALERT*****SPOILER ALERT*****SPOILER ALERT -- in case you didn't have a chance to see PAN on the big screen!
On the other hand, I have just watched REAL STEEL ... and have wondered why that appealed tremendously and unexpectedly to the audience!
Why did PAN fail with audiences when REAL STEEL, a movie that was derided similarly before release, worked??
I think it is because it wore its heart on its sleeve! People sympathized with the boy who did not have a real Dad but found him after they shared real emotions between the two of them...that of challenge, victory, and love! It's because the audience sympathized with a Dad who could not connect to his son, but found redemption through shared moments with him! People even loved ATOM, who seemed sentient almost! Yes, that movie had a lot of heart! And people fell in love with their story and adventures!
And when Max's tears fell down his cheek as he watched his Dad fight Zeus through Atom, it was a recognition that son and father have found each other! That was a teary-eyed moment...and people could not help but fully empathize with how a child discovers how much he loves his father!
PAN had a lost boy ( but his shared moments with his Mum was only momentary and reminded me a little of how Max found his father emotionally-speaking...but it was too fleeting) and found life on a fantasy island as his source of joy. There were moments where there was an attempt to connect the boy and his cruel master Blackbeard...or tried to form a bond with Hook and Tiger Lily. But did we really get to know him?
BLACKBEARD was an awesome villain, but does one really sympathize with such a monster who walks little boys down the plank...and whose main objective for imprisoning those boys was merely for vanity. If only they had pursued the original script where Blackbeard's ambitions were geared towards conquering the world and that was why he wanted to live forever.
HOOK confused people because he was a cynical but good man at the start. Hook has to be a villain in the eyes of Peter Pan fans!
ROONEY MARA was an impressive fighter but I wished she showed stronger emotions so we can sympathize with her more strongly as she defended her tribe.
If one cannot sympathize with the characters and their situations ( even better, empathize with them) then a movie, no matter how brilliantly presented or how well-acted, may not catch the audience's hearts!
Just a thought!
Of course some people go to the movies to get lost in fantasy and adventure -- that would be PAN'S greatest appeal!

Sorry!
I have assumed that most of us have seen it in the cinema...and/or have already read the extensive discussions of the movie ( spoilers included) in the threads on the subject.
I have edited my post ( with a SPOILER ALERT) for those who have not seen this particular movie at all.

PAN may not have been everyone's favorite film of the year (OK, an understatement), but it looked beautiful on a big, 3-D screen and sounded amazing in a theater equipped with state-of-the-art sound. It's one movie I can easily view a few times as opposed to CHAPPIE (occasionally intriguing, but once was enough).

Okay, saw it on Monday! Was great on my daughter's huge (entire wall) Blu-ray projection set-up! I need to watch it again with the subtitles on because I had a hard time understanding what they were saying. I liked the movie and Hugh was perfect in his role as Blackbeard! And Levi Miller as Pan was incredible, considering this is his first movie!

Hey, the PAN Bluray/DVD set is doing quite well on Amazon. It ranks # 20 among Movies and TV ( and # 5 among movies for Kids/Family).
Also, the average customer reviews is 3.8 out of 5 or 76% approval!
I think the negativity that greeted it ( I really don't understand where that came from!) was unfair to this movie. People are just discovering now that it is worthwhile watching ( and keeping!).
