He's one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

And Australian actor Hugh Jackman is one of the most charitable.

On Friday, the 47-year-old was spotted at a Catholic church in Melbourne's beachside township of Sorrento in Australia, helping the parish take up collections.


Melbourne lawyer David Bongiorno first shared the news on Twitter, writing: 'My sister is at #Mass. She just messaged me that #HughJackman is taking up the collection. #CatholicPRArm in full swing.'

The mass was held at St Mary's Star Of The Sea on Constitution Hill Road.




David's sister Amy Bongiorno told Daily Mail Australia that Hugh attended the service with billionaire trucking magnate Lindsay Fox, his wife Paula, and their family.


'Jackman was with the Fox Family at mass. Lindsay and Paula and their family. I am a lapsed Catholic. It is the Church at Sorrento behind the pub,’ she said.

David added that his sister said women in the pews were 'giggly' and Hugh's collection certainly worked.

'The plate was full of cash and all the kids were getting high fives,’ he said.

It's not the first time Hugh has done such a good deed.

The father of two - who is typically based in New York with wife Deborra-Lee Furness, 60, and their adopted children Ava, 10, and Oscar, 15, - has collected donations for the church before.

Hugh is enjoying time in Australia with his family, having wrapped up his musical show Broadway to Oz



A week ago, he shared a video after his final performance and thanked fans for turning out to support him.

He said: 'Australia, I just wanted to say from the bottom of my heart - thank you.'

'These last three weeks touring around the country doing the Broadway to Oz have been a dream come true. It is a bucket list moment for me.

'Merry Christmas. Happy New Year,' he added.

I do remember that he has talked about attending Midnight Mass as part of their Australian Christmas traditions. But I think he was in NYC during the Christmas season ( The River on Broadway) last year

Btw, I usually do not attend Midnight Mass ( I had done it once and I was falling asleep instead of concentrating on the religious celebration). So, early today I went to attend early morning Mass at our Catholic parish church. The beautiful church was very beautifully decorated and featured a life-size Nativity scene. The mass was celebrated with traditional Christmas hymns and a very well-said homily celebrating the family!
