As a couple of you may know (from Facebook) I spent New Year's Eve/New Year's Day (he got to a room right before midnight and we watched the ball drop in Times Square) with my dad who had to be taken by ambulance to the ER of my hospital. He had difficulty breathing and his oxygen saturation was only in the 80's instead of his normal 95 (100 of course is best) He has COPD and was also coughing a lot. The assisted living facility called me at 5 pm just as I was taking a patient to the recovery room. Luckily I had my cellphone in my pocket! And also that we were not too busy so I was able to go down to the ER and be with him. They did every test under the sun and are giving him steroids, antibiotics and bronchodilators (breathing treatments) He was admitted and is still there since when they take him off oxygen, his O2 sat drops in the 80's again. When he comes home (maybe tomorrow) I bet he will have to be on oxygen. Yesterday he was much better and able to get up to the chair & bathroom with just a little help (holding on to me) I'll go see him later today. P.S. He will be 90 in April!

Thanks Jo. He is still in hospital on oxygen, but maybe they will let him go home tomorrow. He is doing fine otherwise.

He had a big setback last night and he "desaturated" (oxygen level went real low) and they had to put him on what's called BiPap which is a mask that forces air (oxygen) into your lungs (like CPap which is for people with sleep apnea) They moved him to ICU and now he is on 5 Liters of oxygen (he was on 2 yesterday afternoon) They also put him back on steroids and Lasix. I'm going in to see him soon.
