Although "flying like an eagle" was not meant to be complimentary, according to Hugh. It simulated how
Eddie's  arms kept flapping awkwardly because he could not control his body/arms properly, unlike the controlled sideways arms of a ski-jumping pro

The professional way of keeping the arms sideways is probably an aerodynamic tactic.

But Eddie did soar like an eagle into the hearts of the cheering crowd at the Calgary Olympics.

For a movie that held its first public screening at Sundance, the home of independent movies -- this is probably a first for a low-flying-on-the-radar film!


Hey, the 32-second spot will cost a nifty $ 5 million! But it will be watched by over 100 million people ( except for those who go to the bathroom at such a time ).


Taron Egerton is a lucky young man!! He gets top billing...is mentored on the promo trail by one of the best media junket movie stars on the planet ( who also bore the brunt of the marketing campaign via solo interviews and hosting of a private screening ...and even the twitter exchange with Kurt Warner)...and whose movie gets a much coveted Superbowl spot!! Lucky, too, for director Dexter Fletcher!

Ever since I saw Taron Egerton light up the screen in last year's KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, I thought he would make an amazing replacement for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. He had the charisma and the look, all that would need some work was the voice and attitude, which, let's face it, is kind of an actor's job. While the possibility of that random dream scenario isn't any closer to happening, I did find it interesting when I first stumbled onto this film, EDDIE THE EAGLE. I think I should say now that this film couldn't be farther from a superhero flick, but I'd line up to see Hugh Jackman train Taron Egerton in anything. In this particular case, ski jumping. EDDIE THE EAGLE tells the story of Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, a man who became the first British competitor to represent Britain in ski jumping at the 1988 Olympics...



Given the material of the film, the studio is undoubtedly making a wise decision by putting this commercial for the movie during the Super Bowl. Given that it's a sports movie, and that (shocker) a good portion of the viewers will be interested in sports, it'll definitely do much to raise awareness for a film that probably didn't take a whole lot of money to make. In addition to all this, it looks like a pretty solid film, albeit rather predictable...

And maybe it is also becoming clearer why the release date was pushed forward to February 26 in the USA !

There was also some talk from THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER about some on-the-ground events from EDDIE THE EAGLE.

Major on-the-ground events are also planned for those titles, as well as sports comedy Eddie the Eagle (Feb. 26), but insiders are keeping mum as to what they are....

Hope Hugh is fully recognized by Superbowl fans - No names of the stars of the film are mentioned up to the 32-second mark, which is what will be shown at the game.

EXCLUSIVE: After launching the Taron Egerton-Hugh Jackman-starrer Eddie The Eagle with a sneak Sundance screening, 2oth Century Fox is going all in with a spot to play during Super Bowl 50. Even though The Eagle sometimes crashed after he soared, Fox marketing president Marc Weinstock said the film’s subject personifies themes that are completely relevant to Sunday’s gridiron match. “Eddie The Eagle is the underdog movie that has moved everyone who’s seen it with its story of perseverance, passion, drive and never giving up on your dreams,” Weinstock said. “We were confident that it would strike a chord with these particular athletes, who were all underdogs themselves at one point. Perhaps because of their own personal stories and how many people they’ve inspired, they responded incredibly well to the movie and are the perfect champions for it.” The Dexter Fletcher-directed film bows Feb. 26. Btw, Beijing is hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics so the theme of EDDIE THE EAGLE may appeal strongly to the Chinese market! They also seem to like movies with spectacle, so those ski-jumping scenes will be welcome.

Hugh is also known there -- China produced the highest box office results from the overseas market for THE WOLVERINE ( $ 41 million) and for DAYS OF FUTURE PAST ( $ 116 million).

I wonder - will he promote the movie in China?
