First, a somber message by James Corden re the Orlando tragedy.
So far, the show seems very inclusive --
*The Opening number includes even long-running shows, not just the nominated ones. James Corden's delivery is very slick and he is lovable ( although the star presence is a bit lacking) ... can you imagine how much more exciting that number could be in the hands of Hugh?
*The audiences outside the Beacon are getting a real treat!
And the other notables, for me --
*ALWebber loves the theatre -- he is always willing to lend a helping hand, including playing the tambourine ( someone asked if that is all he can play - LOL! Maybe that was how he composed JesusChrist SS, Evita, Phantom, Sunset B...and School of Rock )
*Aaron Tveit - I wish he had a stronger presence but sometimes he is almost just like anyone ( Unwrap his Broadway-quality triple-threat talent and he can deliver) . But I loved the gown his co-presenter wore ( how shallow of me
)
*Alex Brightman is very energetic -- had his competition been not the Hamilton guys, he probably would have a great chance for a win.
*Lin Manuel Miranda is very Latin Spanish ( not sure how to describe it), especially with his gesticulating hands! Guess what!! We ( as a people here in the Philippines) also do that all the time -- it's the same cultural gesture
*Another shallow comment - Lucy Liu never disappoints with how elegantly she dresses. I wonder if A VIEW OF THE BRIDGE will win more than LONG DAY'S JOURNEY...?
*Shuffle Along and She Loves Me - very slick displays of talents ( but too evocative of old-fashioned entertainment -- I guess that's why they are revivals)!
*How many revivals of Fiddler have we noted ? Of the more recent ones -- there were the versions with Molina and Fierstein ... and this one). The choreography seems to be getting faster and faster for every revival! Btw, I did see the original on Broadway many, many moons ago
*Bright Star looks and sounds poignant!
*Law and Order -- haha -- the best greenhouse for producing new talent!
*Cynthia Erivo -- she was at the reading of Greatest Showman -- one can only hope!
*One more time for Andrew Lloyd Webber for his new initiative to support theatre training for the young and talented!
*Jessica Lange - I had seen her on Broadway in THE GLASS MENAGERIE...nice to see Michelle Williams again ( Deception)!
*And the Latin beat ( with Gloria Estefan) is definitely engaging!
*Carpool karaoke -- ONE DAY MORE!! I need to see the film adaptation again!
*Cate Blanchett and Jake Gyllenhaal (and Diane Lane) -- what is it with respected movie actors! Their presence is very strong, their delivery is to the point, and they speak so compellingly!
*Frank Langella - the second of the seniors to be honored!
*How can HAMILTON not win -- with the President and the First Lady endorsing the show
Sorry... my interest is a bit flagging. Not too long to go now.
*Is Glose Close supposed to appear in a new show on Broadway?
*A lot of legends tonight - Angela, Babe N, Chita!
*Color Purple wins Best Revival. The original actress from the film, Oprah Winfrey, joins the joyful cast on stage.
*Neil Patrick H announces Lesley Odom, Jr, for a TONY Best Actor for Hamilton.
*And as expected -- Cynthia Erivo wins Best Actress!
*And the legendary entertainer, Barbra Streisand gives a simple but heartful and meaningful message.
*And, as very much expected, the story of the dreamer and performed by current-day dreamers won Best Musical -- HAMILTON!
