I lucked on Hugh's press conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil which was being livestreamed, while looking at his twitter feed. The session was in Portuguese ( for the questions) and in English ( by Hugh, after listening to the translation)...then Hugh's long, very long, answers were translated back to Portuguese. The gist of his replies focused on how much he was involved physically, mentally, and emotionally with the role -- conceptualizing it and then filming it. *He said it was exactly on March 2, 2015 when he woke up and dictated his voice memo on his concept for his finale movie. He said it was very substantially incorporated ( about 95%) when the fullblown story and screenplay were eventually written. He also talked about the many influences to the movie ( the Clint Eastwood classic UNFORGIVEN, Little Miss Sunshine and Shane which came from Mangold, and including his reference to THE WRESTLER by Darren Aronofksy - when someone who is already down and out still finds a glimmer of hope. But kept saying that LOGAN is a Mangold film! Not sure but it looks like there will be a screening later on, as his backdrop was a huge panoramic screen! *He said that to be honest, they did not make the movie precisely in the template of a comicbook movie. It was not meant to be defined by genre or by rating but defined by the storytelling and character. *He thought the movie was more of a "meditation" on life and death and what life means and implies. In relation to the incidental reference to a current issue on the political scene, he said it was more prescient than deliberate is all about the then he talk about connecting with the world and everyone and about the cost of connecting. *He said it was moving but not sentimental! He mentioned a scene of Logan carrying Prof X up the stairs and he said that was really a very moving moment. He also mentioned another moment that touched him : when Charles told Laura that she did not have to be what they created. *He felt totally at peace or peaceful while making the movie. *He said that if he thought his previous Wolverine movies were already of the substance that he found in LOGAN, then LOGAN would not have been made at all! Asked about the future -- *He mentioned that he is now making a movie that is the polar opposite of LOGAN, and spoke of the movie musical THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (plug! )...that it is all about PT Barnum, a man who is the most positive person one can meet. He said the film project took 7 years to get approved. He also shared that they are expected to complete the movie within a month or so. *Re future projects -- he wants to make movies that make him think or feel. He said that after SHOWMAN, that he doesn't have anything on the table. Of course he does not think that Wolverine will ever leave him -- that the character is a part of him. Others --- *Not sure what was asked ( we never got to hear the English translation of the questions from the audience) but the journalist seemed to be referring to a song that Hugh must have sang in the past "Ole, Ole, Ole" -- which is a football chant -- Hugh could not remember but if I recall faintly, he might have repeated that famous chant maybe in a previous visit to Brazil. Hugh sang one line and said NO that was not it. He also kidded about OLD MAN LOGAN -- by singing it using OLD MAN RIVER. *He was a given a gift by a journalist which he opened right there -- there were two things which I cannot make out ( precious minerals maybe or fragrant piece of wood??) but the box also contained a letter and a Wolverine drawing with a little girl from the daughter-fan of the journalist. Hugh promised to read the letter -- maybe get it translated first *He looked nice -- charcoal grey suit and skyblue shirt. *He was asked presumably on his "Wolverine body" - he shared that it takes more than a few weeks gym work, weights included, contrary to what he thought when he first got the part of Wolverine. *It looks like he flew directly from Berlin -- that must be a very long flight! I guess the reversal of the time zone gave him enough to rest before coming to the media meeting. *I spotted Michelle and Brian again - good to know they take care of him! I was not able to take notes in full -- I probably missed other stuff. JO

The press conference in Brazil has been uploaded on YouTube Now I can correct some of my own misimpressions above Hugh always charms -- with his sincerity, candor, sense of humility, well-groundeness, and easy-going manner. And he doesn't look bad either nor does his personal charisma ever falter Obrigado, Senor Jackman

It looks like Patrick Stewart is also doing his share of LOGAN publicity. He was supposed to have gone to Madrid to promote the movie. I wonder if he was joined by Dafne Keen who lives in Madrid?

http://instagram.com/p/BQvSj8OjBOO He's missing it by a few days ( Carnaval in Sao Paulo starts on Feb 24 -- it looks like it is a 4-day affair. Carnaval usually happens before the Lenten season begins ( Ash Wednesday begins next week, on the exact same day as LOGAN opens here in the Philippines).

I thought it was pretty quiet here in Manila --
but all of a sudden, the local TV was blaring out a TV spot for LOGAN ( the forest scene!) ...and then at the same time I come across this on twitter --
For the uber-fanboys, there are 1:00 am screenings -- in the really wee hours of March 1!

Here's adorable Dafne Keen, only 9 years old ( she was 11 when they flmed the movie) in this clip. She speaks with an English accent because her Dad is English actor Will Keen while her Mom is Spanish. I love Hugh's story where he said that he took her and Ava ( they are the same age) to a waterpark on a Sunday in Baton Rouge ( the film was partly filmed in Louisiana)... and then the following Monday, she was slicing and dicing

He is literally criss-crossing the world. I think he is due in Taipei on Feb 27 but expected in NYC on Feb 24?
Will he also premiere the movie in his homeland after the China appearance?

He's flying back to England? There seems to be no announcement of any London premiere yet. But they have never missed one for XMen films because, after China, the UK has the largest XMen movie-going fanbase, per Box Office Mojo.

Did you catch the live show -- I thought it was for tomorrow and stumbled on it only by accident I caught maybe 7-10 minutes before Hugh had to leave early. But I did catch him saying, sounding with all finality, that had the idea of a Deadpool and Wolverine come many years earlier then it could have happened...but now, he told Ryan on the air: “Deadpool, go for it, man. You do your thing. You don’t need me.” ! That's it! He couldn't have been more categorical in his decision not to do a movie with Deadpool now that he has left the role of Wolverine! But I stayed on to hear what Patrick shared about Hugh -- *How in the last 10 minutes of the movie when it was shown in Berlin Hugh held his hand and they watched the movie with their hands clasped together in what must have been a very emotional moment for Hugh. *How he appreciated Hugh's gesture of making a short speech about Patrick when Patrick's shoot had wrapped in Lousiana. Hope they replay it. Jo
