I just came across this in my browsing...thought it would be fun, as we watch Hugh comment on his latest movie, to hear his commentary on one of his earliest ones! Even back then he sure knew how to "sell" a film!

I saw that clip a very long time ago -- his accent was much thicker Btw, I think the very first time that a movie of his was being " peddled" in a film festival for film distribution purposes was for this film, at the Deauville Film Festival in France.

Enjoy it while it lasts Hugh is on the banner photo of Variety! www.facebook.com/Variety/Presumably this is because he was the cover story of the Variety exclusive interview on SHOWMAN. Some scoops there ( such as confidential info like production and marketing budgets). If you scroll down you will find the review for JUMANJI - bad! If you scroll much further down, the review of PHANTOM THREAD (film and DDLewis performance) -- not that great! Both by the same Variety critic ( Owen Gleiberman). Hope he does not review THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ( kidding only)... although I would rather get the review from Justin Kroll You can check out early aggregate RottenTomatoes reviews for JUMANJI ( 83% overall rating/40% top critics) and PHANTOM THREAD ( 89% overall rating/100% top critics) Jo

This would also be appropriate for the "what they say about Hugh" thread

Very well represented on the evening entertainment shows tonight, and also just saw a big promotion on The Voice. That was unexpected!

Well, strictly speaking, back in the early days of TV, largely in the 1950s, I believe some live TV shows did live commercials. But that hasn’t happened for a good 50 years or so. Plus they were small-scale displays of products by the show’s host. This sounds like quite a departure. And what great marketing: those who watch A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL are the perfect target audience for the TGS trailer. Nice going!
