TWO MILLION VIEWS in only 2 days!
*I looked up the other crosswalk musicals -- but did not find them as appealing ( even Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera and others, some of which I have already seen). Most are simply putting on the costumes and singing the songs as originally sung in their original staging/film and adaptations, with Corden as the main attraction.
*Why is this particular crosswalk musical particularly engaging?
**It is dedicated to the city where it is being staged. The choices of vignettes all have a NYC connection : On The Town/Guys and Dolls/Fame. Even The Greatest Showman story plays in the tri-state area where the Barnum legend played.
**NYC itself is the uncredited but most prominent character in this crosswalk musical! The vibrancy of the city -- characterized by the typical Manhattan streets/intersections ( a multicultural mix of faces) - the native will not pay attention while the tourist- homegrown or overseas - count the experience as part of their holidaying memories), the typical New York taxicab attitude, the sounds of a busy, always-on-the-go city... Yet amidst the day-to-day chaos is a huge ( yes, huge) area in mid-town where the sounds die down to infinetessimal decibels as the hush welcomes the rising of the curtain and the start of the overture - the home of the musical! The Great White Way ( aka Broadway)!
**So, there is something true-to-life about the episode!
**Very importantly, they had put it all within a comedic skit! That made the whole episode a great self-contained entertainment piece. Someone even suggested that this should be submitted for the appropriate EMMY award.
**They were lucky to have one Hugh Jackman - as his persona perfectly suited the role pitted against the Corden persona. The play on his name is not new -- so many people call him Huge Jackman ( including Lancelot in Night of the Museum 3) ... his badass manner is reminiscent of his universally-known role of Wolverine and just the right antidote to the Corden diva...he is portraying The Greatest Showman himself... most importantly, he is one of Broadway's most popular performers! Had he gone along, Fox was supposed to have gotten the remake rights for GUYS AND DOLLS for him, but he did not say YES ( although he has included the Sky Materson LUCK BE A LADY solo as part of his own one-man shows). A true triple threat treading the boards! A multiple TONY Awards host! A Broadway Baby!
**James Corden himself is another Broadway veteran. And Zac and Zendaya may have the makings of very entertaining stage performers!

Many media outlets have reported on the praise for the live commercial, and noted the many TWITTER reactions praising it very well as against some negativity towards the actual live musical. However, one prominent member of the movie press ( almost like a trade paper?), Deadline.com. is now reporting the reported very positive reaction to the live ad. deadline.com/2017/12/the-greatest-showman-hugh-jackman-zac-efron-zendaya-keala-settle-live-movie-trailer-a-christmas-story-1202228961/What I find interesting is that while it seems to me that there seems to be an unexplained negativity towards the movie ( a "pre-hate campaign against the movie, for no understandable reason", as tweeted by a movie press insider), with arguable comments such as " too way over the top", "not every one likes musicals", "Jackman cannot sing", " why the GGlobes nominations??") -- whenever something more tangible comes out for the movie( such as the release of the musical score, the Crosswalk musical featuring the movie's triple-threats, and now the live commercial featuring 4 of the top cast and a cast of 150) -- the public reaction seems very positive? Is it going to be a case of " the proof of the pudding..." Jo

I think there is some confusion as to what to call the TGS live commercial? Some people even question its claim that it is the first live ad? LOL - when I first read about it -- I thought I think they mislabeled it! Then I read one film blog (Screen Rant) which called it the same way I labelled it in my mind. It is a LIVE MOVIE TRAILER!Because the purpose of movie trailers is to elicit patronage, isn't it? The marketing people goofed and labelled it incorrectly. It is trailers for movies but usually called ads or commercials for other products. From way back up to now, trailers have always been carefully-put-together clips from a movie, very well-edited and polished, but never freshly-filmed for purposes of securing box office appeal! Has there ever been a movie trailer that has been done live??? Here's a related article -- www.showbizjunkies.com/movies/the-greatest-showman-live-trailer/Jo
