And of course Daniel Day Lewis had to get nominated, I’m sure because he is (supposedly) retiring from acting! So no room for Hugh as Logan or P.T. Barnum! Nancy

And Benj Pasek and Justin Paul acknowledges Keala, Hugh, and Michael in their statement about their nomination --
In a sense, this is a critical vindication for the critic-snobbed THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, as what differentiates movie musicals from other types of movies is its songs!

Someone wrote this as a response to the overwhelming disappointment that Hugh Jackman was ignored!

It would be great if Keala and the ensemble repeat the production number from the movie when the song is presented at the Oscars! That is, if the Oscars provide individual slots for each nominated song! However, looking back at the 2013 Oscars, the major cast ( and support ensemble) sang ONE DAY MORE and made the nominated song SUDDENLY as the introduction to the ensemble singing. If they will allow that type of presentation again ( time is the enemy!), wouldn't it be great if they recreated THE GREATEST SHOW initially...then move on to THIS IS ME later...or do it vice versa? It would be the same ensemble that will sing THIS IS ME with Keala...but the opening would allow the inclusion of Hugh and Zac! Zendaya is part of THIS IS ME. I am dreaming... but why ever not if the Oscars wants to add some spectacle to an otherwise very dull show. LOL - it could also remind the voters what they missed It can also be excellent publicity for the release of the video ( BluRay/DVD/On Demand) which debuts at around the same time as the Oscars! Jo

The disappointment about the lack of the Academy's attention, save for This Is Me, has rankled deeply with people who loved the musical!

The one sad note -- why are we not seeing much response from the Broadway community to this achievement by one ( actually two, but Pasek and Paul are a team!) of their own Even the reaction to the soundtrack has been dismissive by many and drew praise from only a few.

There was poetic justice re LA LA LAND after all! It lost Best Picture in the most humiliating way! The Greatest Showman will live in our hearts As for Hugh Jackman -- now the world knows how talented and versatile our own super hero ( not in the comicbook sense) in the entertainment world is! And have you read the praise and words of respect from the people he has touched in his career! That has got to be worth more than all the Oscar honors that winners get! With such talent and professionalism, the honors will be accorded to Hugh Jackman eventually

Well, considering the enduring persistence of this shameful and disconcerting state of things, probably we finally see an Oscar, at least one, in the hands of Hugh Jackman as best actor (and not for Lifetime Achievement when he will become a great-grandfather ninety-nine years old or even posthumously) only when the entire A-List male section actors will end up sooner or later investigated for the same crimes ascribed to Harvey Weinstein ... the countdown begins: Kevin Spacey (- 1) James Franco (- 2) Dustin Hoffman (- 3) ....

Let's keep our hopes high and fingers crossed that Jason Reitman can make a truly great film of THE FRONT RUNNER and that Hugh Jackman will deliver another versatile and well-acclaimed portrayal! I wonder what his new film projects will look like, when we hear about them Jo

I predict that Hugh's next project will be on Broadway.

He said in one interview that he is keen to take THE GREATEST SHOWMAN to the stage-- but from what he was saying, he seems to be looking at something which is not a stage adaptation but more like a live show ( maybe something like a concert/Back on Broadway type)? That was how I understood it. A stage adaptation would be very expensive...although there is an oncoming adaptation of Moulin Rouge to Broadway?
We'll see.

It seems that what people say could be the closest competition to THIS IS ME is the song from the animated film COCO, called REMEMBER ME. I noted it, too, because today I saw the composers ( the EGOT Lopez team) being interviewed for local TV. Why? Because Robert Lopez is of Philippine descent and they were being interviewed also because of previous successes (Avenue Q, Book of Mormon, Frozen, etc). However, nationalistic fervor aside, I doubt that their song can hold a candle to THIS IS ME! My biased opinion

It's a nice little song, but doesn't have the impact of "This is Me", which is more like the 11 o'clock number in a Broadway Musical.

Another nominee for Best Original Song -- composed and sung by Mary Blige:

I like this Mary Blige song, but it does't have the anthem power of "This is Me". "Stand Up for Something" is an interesting title in today's political climate. Wonder if that will challenge "This is Me"? Haven't heard it yet.
OK...Just listened to "Stand Up For Something" from MARSHALL. It's timely even though it's about civil rights in the 1940's. I like it. THIS IS ME is about a different kind of civil rights, but both songs are about triumph of the human spirit. I'd still vote for "This is Me", but it's hard to predict what AMPAS will do.
