“The Greatest Showman – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” (available now via Atlantic Records) continues to be a triumph, receiving an RIAA Gold certification and marking the first soundtrack to score four weeks of 100,000-plus units on the Billboard 200 chart since it’s transition in December 2014. After spending a three consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top Albums chart (the first soundtrack to top the chart for three consecutive weeks since Frozen in 2014), the album broke Suicide Squad: The Album’s record (33 million) twice-over for all-time top streaming weeks for a soundtrack with 39.6 million streams (up from 37.4 million the week prior). The album has reached #1 on iTunes in 75 countries, in addition to charting at #1 in Ireland, #1 for five consecutive weeks in Australia and #1 for 4 consecutive weeks the UK.



The 20th Century Fox musical film’s standout track “This Is Me” (performed by Keala Settle, the lyric video has seen an incredible response from critics and fans alike, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song and a triumphant win at the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards (Best Original Song - Motion Picture). Already having been streamed more than 115 million times globally, the anthem has received a dancefloor ready re-work by GRAMMY® Award winning producer Dave Audé (available today via all DSPs). The song was revealed during Super Bowl LII as the soundtrack to NBCUniversal’s promotional campaign leading up to and during the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, including NBC’s primetime coverage of the Opening Ceremony on Friday, February 9 (watch).

Come to think of it -- it must have been Aaron who first sang the parts of Philip Carlyle? Remember that Instagram image posted by Keala showing them in the 1st and 2nd workshop with Sutton Foster and Aaron Tveit? Also, the first time we heard about the workshops was at around the time of THE RIVER -- when Natalie Weiss posted that she was in a reading for Greatest Showman together with Aaron and Sutton.

In 2014, she was invited to record demos and sing in “The Greatest Showman” ensemble for the little-known songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, whose breakout successes with the movie musical “La La Land” in 2015 and the 2016 Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen” were just around the corner.

Allred said she was “over the moon” to be asked to sing in the ensemble, but she had no idea they might actually use her torch-singing vocals for a solo in the movie.

“They were writing ‘Never Enough’ with me in the room, and it was such a difficult song — it demands your entire range,” Allred recalled. “They laid down the melody, threw me in the booth and we recorded a scratch demo,” meaning a rough recorded draft of a song that eventually gets re-recorded by the star.

But something was different this time.

“People started saying there was a good chance I might be Rebecca’s voice,” Allred said. “But in this industry, we get used to things getting pulled out from under us, so I didn’t believe it at all until they had me meet with her, listen to her accent and watch recordings.”

Ferguson hails from Sweden like her character in the movie, nicknamed “The Swedish Nightingale,” Jenny Lind, so Allred was charged with singing the song in a Swedish accent.


In an interview with Collider last month, Ferguson discussed lip-syncing “Never Enough” and raved about Allred’s performance.

“She is the most incredible singer. I am an actress and that is what I trained to do,” she was quoted as saying in the publication. “There is a difference in being able to sing a tune and hold it and do a fairly good job … (and to) play the world’s best opera singer … I just told her, ‘Loren, you go for it, girl.’”


Allred will never forget when the movie’s director, Michael Gracey, played the edited scene for her, in which Ferguson’s lips were moving in time with Allred’s voice.

“At that point it was real and I was bawling because you work and work and things don’t happen. So for this to become bigger than I had expected …,” she trailed off, then continued, “it’s been a dream.”

Allred, who receives full credit on the soundtrack, said she has received messages from people all over the world letting her know they love the song.

“The big dramatic ballad isn’t as stylish in the pop world right now,” she said. “But people were coming out of the woodwork from everywhere — Canada, Korea, China — saying ‘we love it, we miss those big ballads.'”

She does have a different kind accent, based on her short remarks from the cover of This Is Me - maybe I am wrong but I was surprised that she came from Utah and originally from Pennsylvania, with a classical music family background. I cannot place her accent - I thought there was even a little Scottish lilt ? Btw, the article mentions that she was asked to sing closely to Rebecca's accent. The article assumed it was a Swedish accent. Hmm... Rebecca is both British ad Swedish and I thought her speaking voice in the movie was more British-sounding?

But the song Never Enough did sound like it was coming out of Rebecca's voice, although Rebecca has openly praised the work of Loren in that now well-known suprrise number from the movie.
