Celeste Holm was a great actress. She stole every scene she was in, whether she was working with Gregory Peck, Betty Davis, or Frank Sinatra. I once saw an old clip of her singing, "I Cain't Say No" on an Ed Sullivan Show salute to Rodgers and Hammerstein in the 1950s. She played the comedy in the song with a suggestive little role of her eyes. Brilliant! She also once told the story of her audition for the role of Ado Annie. Apparently, Richard Rodgers was disappointed that she had a trained voice and didn't sound enough like an Oklahoma farm girl. She said, "I can call a hog." Rodgers said, "I dare you." Well, she got the part.
R.I.P. Miss Holm. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.

A few years ago I sat a couple of seats away from her at a New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) show, IDAHO!, appropriately enough a parody of her OKLAHOMA! She looked like she was enjoying it. Ms. Holm had a regal bearing but was friendly and smiling to everyone. May she rest in peace.

A few decades ago ( LOL!) when I was still working in NYC, I happened to be walking on Central Park South close to the Plaza Hotel ... and guess who came out of a nearby smaller hotel --- it was Celeste Holmes and she really looked like a movie star :o
