We are aware in this side of the world that the US eastern seaboard ( mid-Atlantic?) is facing a very dangerous hurricane warning/storm towards the weekend! Take care, everyone who is within striking distance of nature's fury!
In a touch of irony, we are also facing a super typhoon this weekend here in the Philippines ( could be on the scale of the devastating typhoon Haiyan) and we are also bracing ourselves for mother nature at her fiercest.

My 87 year old mom is visiting my 67 year old cousin and his wife in Summerville, SC which is only 25.5 Miles NW of Charleston! I still don’t know if they are evacuating! I called yesterday about 6pm and my mom got all defensive and acted like I thought he was deliberately putting them in danger! I sent an email much later suggesting they could go to Savannah and asking him to please not be mad because I was concerned. Don’t know what else to do. ☹️

Even though I told them the day before that it was not necessary, without telling me, they drove my mom home from Charleston on Wednesday the 12th! Then they drove back to Summerville, SC! Luckily they only got a lot of rain. Don’t know if they lost power. My mom forgot to ask today on the phone. Her flight, which was to be today at 12:50 pm, was canceled. Delta is giving her a credit on any flight in the next year.
Jo, were you in the path of that typhoon in the Philippines?

We were in the periphery ( Category 1 instead of Category 4 in the eye).meaning heavy rains and some wind where we were. But the devastation is bad -- casualties ( not just from the extreme flooding, but also landslides and the terrible winds which blew houses and house parts, and other property and threats of storm surges in coastal areas), loss of basic crops ( the island is the main food basket of the country), power and telecom outages, etc... What aggravated the typhoon rains were the impact of the tropical monsoon winds which drew more rains! There were forced evacuations but did not fully prevent loss of lives... Sadly, a freak tornado also occurred somewhere closer to us.
Nature's fury!
The typhoon ( our 15th for the year) has left and is heading to Hong Kong and China now.
Hope things have also calmed down over there!

Stay safe, Jo. The typhoon sounds devastating, much like Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas.
