During the weekend, a cable company here in Asia ( Star TV - part of the Murdoch group) had an XMEN special. The five XMEN movies were shown in a marathon screening of the series.
:o :o :o I did watch the first four ( from XMEN to Origins:Wolverine) but decided to call it a day after seeing the cameo in First Class!
I have never done anything of the sort before - LOL!
*I have begun to appreciate more and more that the series is not at all like many comic book/action blockbusters. There is a continuing saga-like thread that ties in the movies well together. The acting of the major cast is also very good all throughout the series ( hey, we have Oscar winners Halle B and Anna P, Oscar nominee Ellen Page, legendary actors like Ian M and Patrick S, stage actors like Liev and Alan Cumming). And I do love the haunting musical scores for all!
*One thing that stuck in my mind is how consistent Hugh's acting was in all 4 major movies where he led the film. The character of Wolverine was consistently portrayed.
*I thought he really stood out in that cameo in First Class because he seemed to be the only mature and classy performer, among the many fairly young actors ( except for Fassbender, who I also did not realize when I first saw the movie is not a very tall actor when compared to Hugh).
*I have no doubts that any other actor would or could have given the film Wolverine such a strong persona, as he did in this movie series.
*The Japanese saga will be quite a departure from the rest of the series.

Maybe not quite on topic, but while in Shubert Alley today about to buy a standing room ticket for I'LL EAT YOU LAST, I spied Brett Ratner, director of X-MEN:THE LAST STAND, leaning against the Booth Theater while chatting away on his cellphone. I was so tempted to wait 'til he finished his call and then walk over to ask him if he was ever sorry about helping to "punk" Hugh that time. Or does he still think of it gleefully to this day? I suspect Hugh and Ratner had a big laugh about it afterwards. But discretion got the better of me, and I just walked away. Probably wouldn't have been wise to bring up XM-TLS, either. Ellen

I probably would have walked up to him and kicked him in the shins, Ellen. The Punk'd episode was upsetting to me and I thought he did a horrible job handling X3. You have more class than I do. Jo, I've never watched all 5 movies together but a channel here in the states, FX, occasionally does the first 3 movies together and I've seen them. I've actually just finished watching X2. I never get tired of Wolverine. He's such an interesting character and Hugh brings so much life to him. - Alicia
