A controversial thread opened on ATC re what value people get out of stage musicals --
Of course the serious theatre fans are offended and have presented as examples some of the best book musicals.

They go to jukebox musicals so they can be pleased with themselves that they know the lyrics.
They go to concerts marketed as musicals so they can tell themselves and their friends that they went to a Broadway show.
They go to shows based on Disney (and other) animated films/TV shows so they can say they're introducing their kids to culture.
Some, sadly, don't bother to go any more.
