Bond without the gadgets and the explosions!!
I wonder if anything was ever started on such a project. Hugh has said that he would like to work with Tarantino. I think Tarantino ( if he ever said this) wanted an actor who has strong dramatic skills because the Bond story he may have wanted to pursue is a solitary story - maybe much like The Spy Who Came in From The Cold? I once read a coupla of James Bond books by Ian Fleming...and the Bond character was not the glamour boy that Sean Connery idealized him...but more of tired-of-the-business man with a gun working for the government.
Sadly, Tarantino has said that he is now doing his last movie ( involving a Hollywood queen of gossip)... I wonder why he is giving up filmmaking?

Look -- www.playbill.com/article/south-pacific-directed-by-michael-mayer-may-return-to-screen-with-michelle-williams-com-205274Article dated 10 yrs ago. There seemed to be an attempt to lure Hugh to the role. Michelle W does not have the same charm as Anne for lighthearted roles -- Michelle, to me, is more associated with sadness ( her face) while Anne can be lighthearted ( because of her Princess roles) and dramatic (Les Miserables). She is a better fit with Hugh. Why oh why are projects like this not followed through? Wasn't South Pacific revived at Lincoln Center with Kelli O'Hara and Paolo Szot? I saw it - but was not impressed with Szot who played it like other Europeans playing Emile. But I remember it was a hit then, among the best hits of Bart Sher-directed revivals at LCT. So, audiences may actually like a film remake? Jo PS: Hugh has portrayed a Frenchman once - in Les Miserables

Presumably, they are referring only to the Wolverine role?

No harm in trying With the recent box office success of the Wonka movie ( with Chalamet), the success of the musical numbers from Barbie ( Best Song for Critics Choice) & the reception to Mean Girls -- maybe another film musical is timely for Hugh?

One project that has had Hugh Jackman's name long-attached to it is THE GOOD SPY. He is still listed on IMDB & IMDB-Pro as rumored casting in the role of Robert Ames. There was a relatively more recent update on the project - change in producers/financiers & director, covered in this Variety update in May 2022. variety.com/2022/film/global/robert-ames-hany-abu-assad-good-spy-1235274080/The movie is based on the book of Kai Bird, a Pullitzer-winning author. He also wrote the book that was eventually retitled for the film adaptation as OPPENHEIMER! One of the new distributors is CAA Media Finance, which helped distribute The Father & The Son. It is very hard to find photos of Robert Ames, the top CIA intelligence officer in the Middle East then. I found one which the BBC unearthed when The Good Spy was published. Doesn't look like a spy, huh? I really hope Hugh Jackman is still attached to this project... and that the project will soon start filming. It seems that after the reshoots... and promo campaign for Deadpool&Wolverine... Hugh Jackman may have some free time. I like the prospects for this film - looks like it can appeal to the general public -- a geo-political thriller in a continuing hot spot in the world! It can also be a good awards-bait movie! Jo

Hmm... hasn't Hugh Jackman been announced to attend the Melbourne Global Citizen Now meet, due on March 4-6, 2024? Las Vegas doubleheader will be March 3, Melbourne time.
Can Hugh do both?
