Difficult to find a clip of the Tonys opening number from The Music Man. At best, it is truncated and feature only the tap dance.

Like the author of this article, I also dislike the practice of big names joining a Broadway project at the last minute, as a so-called co-producer, in order to hopefully fill out their EGOT hopes.

I praise the author of that courageous article!

I have also not been too admiring of such a practice.


When I tweeted that Jennifer Hudson would have been better off performing (and not simply writing a check) at that time -- wow - I got many negative replies. It seems her fans think what she did is fully justified.

And she even had taken and posted a photo showing her with her 4 statuettes to show off her EGOT status.

Sounds like glory-hunting to me.


Btw, there is another practice for others who want that EGOT so badly. They offer to read a book for online posting/whatever medium -- so it gets qualified for a Grammy. We know that the GRAMMY is meant to show praise for people who can sing well and whose music has pleased people (I am not sure if reading poems qualify)... I think that is another shortcut for actors who cannot sing. She may be a very good actress but Viola Davis went through that questionable route. Vocal acting is part of Oscar parameters for awards.

For all the fulsome praise Hugh is getting belatedly recognized for THE SON, he was robbed... and he certainly deserved an EGOT by this time. At first some people were not believing that he deserved it when GGlobes annuonced his nomination because of the critical dissing -- but as it turned out, he is getting universal praise for his portrayal after it has been more widely seen.

In the past --
*GGlobes awarded him for Les Miserables - the Oscars gave the final award to DDLewis. Does anyone ever talk about the Lincoln portrayal at all?
*GGlobes nominated him for Greatest Showman. The Oscars did no such thing
*GGlobes awarded Best Song to This Is Me - the Oscars only gave it a nomination ( guess which got the standing ovation at the Oscars?)

If Hugh Jackman ever makes it to EGOT status -- he will have earned it in DIFFERENT aspects of acting/performing.

Tony - live performing in musical theatre
Emmy - hosting an awards event (2004 Tonys) telecast on TV
Grammy - as principal soloist for Greatest Showman

Oscar - would be for acting for the big screen.

Hopefully it will come for Hugh Jackman in the near future!
