Listen to this part (from 6'44")
Doesn't it sound like This Is The Moment?

The NRL Grand Final was in September 1999!
That was right before he was brought in for the filming of the first XMen movie!
And this was after he had already spent a year playing the part of Curly in Oklahoma! in the RNT revival in London.

Wow, that anthem from JEKYLL AND HYDE was never sung so beautifully or powerfully. Now THAT's a halftime show. That performance was new to me. I wish HJ had done a musical in NYC (aside from the CAROUSEL concert) with songs that took advantage of his power; MUSIC MAN doesn't. And I sincerely hope, after all those voice lessons years ago for LES MIZ to expand his vocal range, that he still possesses that power.

At least we have the filmed version of OKLAHOMA! which showed Hugh in full voice.
Although to me, my favorite song from Hugh in Oklahoma! is not the powerfully-sung versions of Beautiful Mornin' or the title song or the love duet -- it is THE SURREY WITH THE FRINGE ON TOP. Why - because he was the first musical theatre actor I have seen who fully acted the song while singing it, making the courting song sound so natural. Presumably it was what drew Rodgers's grandson Adam Guettel to say that Hugh's singing was the best example of very natural segueing from song to words to song! That is the essence of musical theatre!
