How it started....... #DeadpoolAndWolverine

I think we may have an idea on why he said at that time that the film ( which turned out to be LOGAN) would be his final Wolverine movie.

*At the stagedoor of The River, when I asked him if he is going to be in Apocalypse, he said he hoped he would have a part in it ( presumably referring to a meaningful part).

As it turned out - his leadership role was given to Mystique( played by Jennifer Lawrence) as rewritten by Kinberg and presumably approved by Singer. But after that accidental meeting at the parking lot with Singer, Singer added a lengthy cameo of Weapon X meeting Jeanne for the first time. Hugh acknowledged the reparation gesture from Singer but he must have nursed the insulting turn in the script. He never promoted the film on his social media accounts.

*He had some ideas about how he wanted his last Wolverine movie to be told, story-wise, and sent his ideas to Mangold & his writing team. It eventually took the form of a reference to "SHANE" and "UNFORGIVEN" - a hero who ends his career while riding into the sunset. Thus LOGAN, partly based on Old Man Logan, was written!

*It had  huge unexpected success and became a landmark on how to end a superhero's journey.


Now, he has embarked on a new journey - to relive the stories of Wolverine before LOGAN.

Maybe there is the temptation of getting his final compensation for bringing to the screen the role that rejuvenated the entire genre? Maybe he wanted it to be his retirement money? Who knows?


But it could very well be that his artistic motivations looked at it as unfinished business?


*So, he might consider LOGAN as a premonition of how the Wolverine saga would end his journey?


In the meantime, there are more stories to tell, this time while in humorous conflict with a character completely different from Wolverine's badass character( laced with occasional glimpses of humanity within him).

They have met first in ORIGINS...but this faux-enemy has reasons to want to rewrite that script
