That's a good role, even if only a featured one. Norbert Leo Butz played Jigger in Hugh's CAROUSEL concert at Carnegie Hall and I thought he also stood out. If the performer is good, he can also show off his acting ability as Jigger.

Intermission now at BRIGHT STAR, the bluegrass musical in which Michael M. plays a nasty sort who commits an unspeakable crime in 1920s North Carolina. He's very good in the supporting role. Can't wait to see if he gets his comeuppance in Act 2. (Just said hello to Victor Garber in the audience.)

Went to the Theatre World Awards last night and ran into Isabel Keating (Judy Garland in TBFO for those who are not old-timers here) and her longtime (since TBFO) guy, musician Mark Berman. So nice to see they're still such a happy couple. She remembered me and we had a lovely chat in the lobby before the ceremony started. She was there not to perform, as she did at the ceremony a few years ago, but solely as an audience member/former recipient of the award (along with HJ back '04). Isabel still looks fantastic.

I'm just starting to catch up with the new season of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, a regular on which is Beth Fowler (Peter's mom in TBFO), who plays the errant former nun, now a prisoner. In the first new episode I spied a familiar face--that of Stephanie J. Block, TBFO's erstwhile Liza M, as a prison guard. I was wondering if she and Beth would have any scenes together, making for a sort of TBFO reunion. Today I saw Stephanie's retweet of Boadway.com's Paul Wontorek's "reunion" tweet illustrated by a photo of Stephanie with Beth, the latter clad only in a shower towel. So yes, they do have at least that scene together. Nice! I'm looking forward to seeing that episode.

Tyler Hanes was part of the ensemble of THE BOY FROM OZ. I think he also played one of the roles in the revival of A CHORUS LINE. And now he is RUM TUM TUGGER in the new revival of CATS. Original director TREVOR NUNN is directing the revival, but there has been some buzz about a change in the choreography but inspired by the iconic dance profile of the original show plus some unconfirmed buzz that they might do rap for some of the songs. Tyler is doing a running video of how the show is progressing. They have now transferred from the rehearsal studios to the Neil Simon theatre. It is a bit long but it is remarkable for me to recall many of the whimsical names of the cats : Grizabella, Old Deuteronomy, Rum Tim Tugger, McAvity, Mungojerrie, Bombulurina, Victoria, Rumpleteaser, Bustopher Jones, Mr. Mistoffelees, Skimbleshanks, Jemima, Jennyanydots, etc. www.broadway.com/videos/157042/whats-new-pussycat-backstage-at-cats-with-tyler-hanes-episode-4-stir-crazy/?page=1&sort=newest#playWhen I first saw CATS, I thought it was the least liked show of ALWebber that I have ever seen ( and I have seen almost all of them, except the latter ones). But the lyrics caught my attention and then I learned that the witty words were poems written by a famous British literary man, T. S. Eliot. I started listening to the album... Now with these shots of the characters ( funny how I remember maybe 90% of those names and characters -- there is even one representing The Theatre Cat called Gus, short for Asparagus) in that jumbled up set ( where cats play and where they assemble for the Jellicle Ball), I wouldn't be surprised if I turn up for a performance should I have a chance to revisit NYC. Btw, the show's most memorable song ( with the lyrics penned by Trevor Nunn himself) is the present-day ballad standard called MEMORY. But I do believe Rum Tum Tugger is the hottest cat in town Jo

Stephanie J. Block made a guest appearance on last Sunday's Madam Secretary, in the role of Jay's (played by real-life hubby Sebastian Arcelus) wife. The story line is that their marriage is in trouble due to Jay's time-consuming job, so this will most likely be a recurring role for Stephanie. Clever casting, no? Carol

Mitchel David Federan, aka Young Peter in TBFO, will be on the TV series THE MIDDLE this Wednesday, May 9, as per his Instagram. I was always so afraid he was going to land on his head when he leapt off that piano in the show!

There's a BWW topic on TONY winners whose careers did not prosper too well later on. Jarrod Emick's name came up. However, one BWW regular shared that Jarrod has been in poor health more recently. www.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=1105717&dt=52Please scroll down to DOLLYPOP's post -- Hope he recovers fully...and will be able to show his talent on Broadway once again!
