All I see is a tiny graphic of a salmon-colored movie camera. Perhaps the trailer can't play in the US?

New York screening to be held at "enemy" territory -- at LINCOLN Center ;D www.hollywoodreporter.com/race/lincoln-les-miserables-silver-li nings-386582 >>>Les Miserables, Universal's primary awards hopeful, will open in theaters Dec. 25, more than a week after Oscar nomination voting begins Dec. 17. To make sure that voters can see the film on the big screen before it opens, the studio has scheduled a barrage of advance screenings, beginning with one Nov. 23 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York. The next day, The New York Times has learned, the film will screen for the first time in Los Angeles -- six times within eight hours. Moreover, each screening will, theoretically, be attended by the film's Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper. Talk about making up for lost time!<<<I wonder, will Hugh be there? Jo

Speculations continue -- www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/goldstandard/la-et-mn-daniel-daylewis-oscar-best-actor-20121114,0,2623805.story "Then again, we haven't heard Hugh Jackman sing "Bring Him Home" in "Les Miz," so maybe come Thanksgiving weekend, we'll be whistling a different tune. "...
And, as stated above, Jackman's arrival as the virtuous Jean Valjean could seal the deal on that remaining slot. Character arcs don't come much grander than the one Victor Hugo laid out for his "Les Miz" protagonist. "Two-four-six-oh-one!"This is making me nervous Jo

Someone's chimed in that his next sojourn as Wolverine may even be good enough " for AMPAS consideration" . Hey, it it happens, this will be the first time that a lead superhero gets artistic recognition Jo

Thanks for the link to the Variety article, Valerie >>>In researching the character, Jackman perused the original source material, Victor Hugo's 1,500-page novel, which he says provided him every bit of backstory and thought process. He also traveled throughout France for a month with his family, noting that every town seemed to have an Avenue Victor Hugo as its main street.
"Even though the musical emanated from England, we knew it was important not to have an English sensibility," Jackman says. "It needs to feel French. The Victor Hugo class system is a lot different than the English class system and the French are more in your face, by hugging and embracing."
Of singing live on film from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. during production, Jackman says the role demanded everything of him.
"I tried to approach it from a place of truth and humanity."<<<Given that he has English roots, what he said about giving the movie a French feel explains how he has acted out the role ( such as the scene from WHO AM I) - where the emotions during his moment of turmoil are so heartfelt and so well-acted.

Hugh has moved up to # 2 among contenders, based on Gurus of Gold survey -- moviecitynews.com/2012/11/gurus-o-gold-at-the-end-of-november/Hope the months of December and January will solidify support for Hugh, especially among the AMPAS voters. If he wins ( or is it a matter of when ) the Golden Globes, that should raise his stock even more considerably. I wonder if two groups might throw in their support for him, if their candidates falter towards the end of the campaign ( Fox whose Life of Pi which does not seen to have male actor strengths and Harvey W who is currently championing Joaguin P and Bradley C)? And how about the production group of the Oscars show? I am also awaiting the newest GoldDerby update, which has more predictors on its lineups. Jo

Of course we will also await what the critics will say about his performance ( although I cannot see them diverging too far from the judgment of the Oscar bloggers) but there are some who do not see how brilliant he can be. I wonder what NYTimes' AO Scott will say - he was all praise for Bale but left no good word at all for Hugh in The Prestige. He is also a diehard for Lincoln!...When I read the readers feedback on Amazon or IMDB on his performance in The Fountain there is very, very strong acknowlegement how amazing his performance was - yet critics never even mention it when they talk about his work as an actor. But hopefully, they do not wreck his chances for an Oscar and other awards. Some say, if his performance is fairly good and not downright panned by the critics, that it will not matter to the AMPAS voters. It is a good thing critics are not the AMPAS

Even Sasha is softening a bit after a second viewing so I don't expect her actual review to be as harsh as initially feared.

Is Sasha considered a legitimate film critic?
Her blog might be more influential in drawing people to the movie or not. Although at this point I am no longer sure who is considered a film critic or not.

Not so much as a critic as a heavy twitter and big force on a very popular film blog and with other critics and commenters. They and her twitter followers gave her a rather hard time about the Les Mis blindspot and she made the effort to go back and re-watch and at least start learning the story. She will do a major write up once embargo is lifted and it will be read so worth the effort to at least get her to be less than negative.

VULTURE raises chances of LES MISERABLES, Hugh, Eddie, and Anne in its winners chart -- www.vulture.com/2012/11/oscar-futures-is-les-miserables-a-game-changer.html?mid=twitter_vulture-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oscar Futures: Is Les Miserables a Game-Changer? By Kyle Buchanan Every week between now and January 10, when the nominations are announced, movies and stars will help themselves — or sometimes, hurt themselves — in the Oscar race. Vulture's Oscar Futures will listen for insider gossip, comb the blogs, and out-and-out guess when necessary to track who's up, who's down, and who's currently leading the race for a coveted nomination. Let's check out the chart Best Picture Les Miserables. It finally screened last weekend, and yup, this sure to be monster hit is our new front-runner. It does have its detractors, and not everybody is going to be in the tank for a super-long, sung-through musical, but those non-fans will be split among more sober competitors like Argo and Lincoln, leaving Les Miz as the field's ginormous epic of choice. Current Predix: Amour; Argo; Beasts of the Southern Wild; Les Miserables; Life of Pi; Lincoln; Silver Linings Playbook; Zero Dark Thirty Best Actor Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables). Jackman really delivers here in a role that asks more of him than any he's tackled so far. It's such a strong, arduous, leave-it-all-on-the-screen performance that he's got to be considered a real threat here now. Current Predix: Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln); John Hawkes (The Sessions); Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables); Joaquin Phoenix (The Master); Denzel Washington (Flight) Best Supporting Actor Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables). There's new talk of Redmayne stealing into this category as the romantic Les Miz hero Marius, and his big number, "Empty Chairs and Empty Tables," has had audiences applauding. Current Predix: Alan Arkin (Argo); Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook); Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained); Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master); Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln) Best Supporting Actress Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables). It's over. Current Predix: Amy Adams (The Master); Samantha Barks (Les Miserables); Sally Field (Lincoln); Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables); Helen Hunt (The Sessions) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Above is not the complete chart. Please check the link for full report. Tom Hooper is among currently predicted contenders for Best Director. Both Eddie and Russell are NOT among the predicted contenders for Best Supporting Actor ( also a very crowded field). Jo

Now all that needs to happen is for Daniel Day-Lewis to publicly mistreat puppies and advocate for the violent overthrow of western democracies. Then it's in the bag for Hugh! But I'd take a tie, as Hugh likely cannot rise to No. 1. Ellen
