Just read that Hugh's father Chris is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's I hadn't heard that before! Hugh has mentioned that he has it, but I hadn't heard he was in the "advanced stages". Where did you read it? This was from earlier this year: www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/hugh-jackman-on-his-dads-alzheimers-battle-1525203I guess that might be defined as "advanced". His dad was well enough to attend the Oscars, if I recall correctly, but he may have gotten a lot worse in the last 10 months. I'm sure Hugh is spending some time with him these days.

Oh, I see it now, thanks. It was mentioned in that "two Hugh Jackmans" article which also had the Russell Crowe-Sam Barks stuff. I expect they were just going off of Hugh's remarks from a year ago and don't have more recent info on his condition.

Such a fun video. He always looks so happy to home, the nasty flies notwithstanding.

It's almost like listening to a different language with those guys talking so fast! That was fun!

Thanks for the link, Jan!
This reminded me of that successful SEED Productions TV reality show called AN AUSSIE GOES BARMY, which showed cricket-mad Hugh and mate Gus talking about their beloved sport ( definitely an obvious heritage from British culture!). I think if you look around the internet, you can still download the first episode which featured a lot of Hugh.
It seems that the Boxing Day match ( and his obvious participation) was one of the main reasons that Hugh looked forward to the holiday in his homeland. He was even seen on a private beach trip before Christmas, but this time he was dressed for the sun ( big straw hat, long sleeved jacket over his shorts, dark glasses) as he played cricket with his kids and family on the sand.

Ellen I was thinking the same thing at certain points it sounded like they were speaking a foreign language! So glad he's having a fun, relaxing vacation and doing things he loves. He & his family certainly deserve this wonderful trip back home. I hope Hugh and his father were able to share some good moments. Sue

I'm so relieved to read I wasn't the only one who had trouble understanding these guys! I needed SUBTITLES sometimes. Would you believe the other day they had a program (was it on ABC on a Saturday morning?), a kind of documentary about Australian animals, I think, and though it was all in English, when the Aussies spoke... they really had subtitles--IN ENGLISH! Wow, nice. He's looking great there. Happy and relaxed. Vacation suits him. I love his hair like that: longish... I'm also very glad to see his nose is healing nicely, and it's not swollen any more. It looked aquiline for a while there, but it's back to straight... Alma

LOL For those who don't understand cricket (which I guess would be 90% of this forum), Hugh once nearly caused a diplomatic outrage by describing it as "The thinking man's baseball" LOL. Fortunately it was not publicly in front of an American audience, but backstage with Daniel Craig and another Aussie cricket lover (me) after a performance of "A Steady Rain". Cheers. Alma

Hi hu4601 from the land of Oz, the great and powerful Re "the thinking man's baseball" remark -- did you know that when Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice were asked to compose a special musical to mark a special royal celebration ( for premier and private airing in front of their royal majesties, the Queen and her family at Windsor Castle, on the Queen's 60th birthday), it was a musical dedicated to CRICKET?!! That is how much it is held in special regard in the British culture ( which I guess was imbibed by the colonials from down under ). PS: It was a lighthearted musical comedy, but as ALWebber is won't to do -- he re-used some of the excellent melodies into what has become a favorite musical work from ALWebber, a stage musical called ASPECTS OF LOVE ( which happens to be my favorite musical score from Lloyd-Webber to this day smiley-love029). Talking about Aussie talk - sometime ago, about the time before the Sydney Olympics of 2000, I had a chance to work ( as liaison/coordinator) for a consultancy project with an Aussie group from the defunct Arthur Andersen ( now integrated into Ernst and Young) -- they were great fun, very down-to-earth, and a striking sense of humor, except it took me some time to understand how they spoke -LOL! And I had to speak to them daily - more LOL! Guess what -- since my job also involved talking with foreign fund managers/investors ( as part of our bank's Investor Relations function), some of whom came from Sydney -- I did something to help me with the language barrier ( I had already mastered being comfortable with the Brits, the Swiss, the French, no problems with Americans, just a bit problematic with the Asians) -- I started watching NEIGHBOURS, which was doing reruns here ( with young Kylie and young Jason and the rest) -- LOL! I got used to the intonation/accent. But 'strine can still be baffling especially if they're talking cricket-ese! Jo

I love the hair, but I hate the beard--I prefer him clean shaven, mostly because he refuses to shave his neck so it looks so (bad) scruffy. I like a bit of scruff, but shave the neck mate! Nancy

Darn, hu4601, that's one conversation I wish I'd witnessed! Hugh must have been so animated. Not only were you a fellow Aussie, but a cricket lover too! Or, mmmhhmmm, maybe that's redundant... are any real Aussies NOT cricket lovers? Share more tidbits! smiley-happy036 Alma
