The same is true for the original Jean Valjean role -- it was written for a baritone and was actually performed by a baritone in the original French production...
But then came along Colm Wilkinson and the composers had no qualms rewriting large chunks of music to suit the man who was meant to be Jean Valjean in the original English production! Of course Bring Him Home was written with him in mind, as it was sung for the first time by Colm for Les Mis audiences! Everyone is awaiting if Hugh can bring on the same reactions to the song when he expresses the love of a father in the movie version.
Can't wait to hear Hugh's Valjean songs!

His beard is quite gray esp. on his right side. I hope they darken it for Wolverine (since of course he isn't supposed to age!)

If he ever did Kiss Me Kate, Hugh's playful quality would be wonderful for "I've Come To Wive It Wealthily" - So many of the songs would truly suit him and with his love of actually performing lyrics, Cole Porter is a gold mine.
Maybe a whole evening of great musical theater. Imagine what he could do with "Gesticulate" from Kismet.

Those are Howard Keel movies and songs he sang in those films!
When it comes to musicals, it seems Hugh has inherited the mantle from Howard Keel -- what other musicals can we fantasize as Hugh's movie proejcts??
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ??
Btw, didn't Howard Keel star in the first staging of OKLAHOMA! in London? He did see the RNT revival years later!

You can tell they're raising good kids when his son will still hold his hand in public even when there are photographers everywhere. I love this family.

I can still see him doing Guys and Dolls! He'd be fantastic! The thing is, Hugh is so incredibly versatile that he can play in practically anything we think of or "dream" of for that matter. ;D
I'd love to see him in a remake of Taming of the Shrew. I've always wanted to see him in a Shakespearean play or do Shakespeare on screen. He'd be marvelous as Petruchio. Actually he'd be marvelous in MANY of Shakespeare's plays! This is an area I haven't seen him in yet, and since he did a great deal of study in this area, I'd love for him to enter something in this realm in the near future.
Bottom line. This man is just massively multi-talented and is just suited to too many roles!!! LOL.

www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/sydney-confidential/hard-act-to-follow-as-hugh-returns-jackman-to-school/story-e6frewz0-1226454467606Hard act to follow as Hugh returns Jackman to school The Daily Telegraph August 21, 201212:00AM Wolverine star Hugh Jackman shares the love with Sydney's Knox Grammar Year 12 drama students and headmaster Michael Griffiths. Source: The Daily Telegraph WHAT do you do when you're a super-famous movie star with a few hours to kill? If you're Hugh Jackman you visit your old high school and give the next generation of thespians a pre-HSC pep talk. The Wolverine's headliner, resplendent in full Marvel mutton-chops, made his way to his high school stomping ground at Knox Grammar over the weekend to help motivate the current batch of senior drama students who began their final exams yesterday. It's understood the class of 2012 put on an impromptu performance for the Aussie superstar and we're told the action hero was "suitably impressed". "The feedback we received from Hugh was really positive," said a rep for the super-exclusive boys school. "He watched the performance, which the class composed themselves, and then offered them some advice in the lead-up to their exams." Confidential hears Jackman, who was the Knox captain back in 1985, also took a wander through the John Williams Hall, the venue where he played the lead role of Henry Higgins in the 1985 Knox production of My Fair Lady. "He showed great interest in our current dance and drama programs and also the sports that we now have available," said Knox principal John Weeks. "He also very generously donated his old Knox blazer to the school, which will be housed in our archives."
And spies say Jackman was not alone in his trip down memory lane, with the actor's visit filmed on Saturday by a visiting US TV camera crew.

Any of the stage roles done originally by Alfred Drake would suit him both musically and physically. For the Shakespeare lovers a revival of Kiss Me Kate would be the best of both worlds. With all of the wit, humor, and musical creativity of Cole Porter and a story by Old Will, you couldn't ask for more.

Deb obviously is on familiar terms with the top skin-care regimens. No, it's not an HD photo, but how does she manage to look no more than 30-something here?! She looks amazing.

Too bad Hugh couldn't "swing" Mendes into directing a film for him.
By the way, not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere, but Craig's following in Hugh's footsteps, albeit 11 years later, and will host SNL on Oct. 6.

Hugh must have broken the ice, because Daniel used to have a reputation of being shy and reserved. Must have been those competitive auctions after the show ;D
But will Daniel ever sing in public? Hugh was once asked if he can persuade DC to do a movie musical. Hugh's reply: That would be "the audacity of hope"!

(sigh) I have total respect for DLF, as an actress, director, and by all accounts fabulous human being. However, I have a very low tolerance for naivete or willing suspension of disbelief on cosmetic surgery/photoshopping/false glamour. Ms. Furness looks the way she looks because of Hugh's love or a skin-care regimen? Puh-LEEZ. I have the love of a good man, and access to all the best stuff too (complete waste of money, nostrums, Pirelli the barber piss, hope in a bottle, etc.) and I am 55 and I look....55. I have no problem with Deb choosing surgery, but it is....cruel ... to pretend that the rest of us look as we do because we AREN'T loved or can only afford Oil of Olay. And yeah, she DOES look great and I am happy for her. Being married to Hugh and with paps around every corner, I couldn't handle it with her grace and style. I am 55 and I actually look...65 without hair done and full makeup!

You're obviously entitled to your own opinion perry, but to say you have total respect for someone as a human and then proceed to criticize them is a contradiction. I've never heard Deb say that Hugh's love for her has kept her young looking but if she did, I'm sure she said it jokingly. As for her having any type of surgery, that's her business and unless she herself says she's had work done, I won't believe it. I know several women her age who have fantastic skin and look better than they did when they were younger. It's not impossible. I feel like your post is more about your own insecurities.

Well said Alicia! I don't often comment on anything on the board (although a daily 'lurker' ). I, too, feel that a slightly scathing attack, with no evidence, is bad manners to say the least.

A lot of it is genetics--I'm 57 and people have told me I look mid 40's (and I've had no plastic surgery and only use a concealer for dark circles under my eyes and eyeshadow on special occasions) My Mom is nearly 82 and looks (maybe) 65.

I come from good skin people also. All of my family has very tight clear, youthful skin all of their lives. I have no idea what Deb has done other than take very good care of herself and her extraordinary skin and I wouldn't hazard to guess about it.
