I am hoping to get my book any day/week now. What I have received is the Musical Compilations booklet ( music sheets) revised for the movie. Hugh and Isabelle are on the cover - gorgeous picture hugging the entire page. There are also many photos from the movie inside and every character has a full-page solo ( including Gavroche and Enjolras). Only 16 songs are featured and the new ones are Suddenly and the Javert recitative/song I Have a Crime to Declare. Quite a keeper even if you are not a singer! Also a great gift to someone musically-inclined and who loves Les Miserables! Jo Yes, I love my music book! I've had it a couple weeks and have enjoyed playing the songs immensely. I was pleasantly surprised at all the pix. All the poster images that were put up on the official site included with a few other shots. Now if I only had a better sounding keyboard. Sue

Nice review. What is the round thing that looks like a cd or dvd?? I haven't ordered mine yet. It has to wait because I ordered the BluRay/DVD set and a couple extra DVDs for my BFF who has been very ill and didn't get to see the movie and my 95 yr old aunt who loves musicals but can't sit through movies in a theater anymore. I wanted to gift it to them because I think it's that special! I'm pacing myself. I think next month will be the cd set and the following month stage to screen. I also want to eventually get the movie tie in version of the novel with JVJ/Cosette on the cover. Phew!! I'm glad I'm not obsessed about every movie this way. The only other one I did movie/books/cds/original play etc was Oklahoma! These are my two favorites so future movies will be just like all the rest of my collection of just a BluRay or DVD and that will be it. I'd be in the poor house if I did this sort of buying with all the movies I like. Sue

There is something I am taking from this recent popularity boost of Hugh because of Les Miserables -- *He used to be more of a household name because of fanboy fascination with his Wolverine persona *Theatre fans were isolated because his performances can only be accessible in a few places *Les Miserables was the right vehicle ( because it is a universally-loved musical) to expose the world to his talent and versatility: -that he has musical theatre talents -that he can do heavy drama -that he can portray a character that has a unique physicality, a talent for dramatic portrayal, a musicality that supports the portrayal of the character, and a very strong screen presence! *The movie portrayal also earned him his first Oscar nomination and his first Golden Globe win, plus a score of other nominations with other award bodies. *The Oscar musical number showed him as the leader of that group of talented actors and commanding that stage like nobody else, in front of peers who applauded them loudly! Even if he did not win the Oscar, Hugh Jackman has gained so much because of all this exposure - a newfound respect for his overall talent, an amazement with his delightful versatility, and a stronger appeal of his personality to fans ( have you seen some of the tweets and the feedbacks whenever he is interviewed or is shown on video clips?)!!He is now a household name in the highest regard reserved for great Hollywood actors! If he can consolidate all these gains with the next roles in film and the stage -- Hugh has such a bright future for him, career-wise! All hail > Jo

Also, this experience may open the door for more film musical opportunities. If so, Hugh needs to strike while the iron is hot. Since Houdini seems to be on hold, now is the time to get GUYS AND DOLLS or CAROUSEL on film. Also, haven't there been rumors about UNBOUND CAPTIVES being on the table again?

Worthy of SNL! (I used to have nice soprano high notes. Now I sound like the end of that clip.) That was great. Wonder if Hugh felt like that alter 18 takes?

The book has just been delivered to me !! It is a memorabilia-filled journey from 1985 to the movie musical - every page and every secret section is like looking for treasures ;D Only thing missing is the awards season results! Plenty of Hugh photos and mentions of his involvement in the film project. Even an early photo of baby Hugh from Oklahoma! Truly the ultimate gift for a true Les Mis fan > Jo

Beyond the photos and the memorabilia, it is the chapters that deal with the evolution of the movie musical which are very much worth reading. There is much owed to Tom Hooper for his interest, his vision, his relentless effort in getting the creative product done as conceived -- it was a disservice by the AMPAS that they ignored his role in the filmization of Les Miserables! At least the Directors Guild of America fully appreciated his efforts and gave him recognition as one of top 5 directorial efforts and results for 2012! Over time, perhaps the musical theatre purists who cannot see through his directorial choices which they did not agree with ( acting and singing choices in particular) will take a revisionist look again at the movie musical and evnetully appreciate that the saga of the filmization is part of the journey of Les Miserables! So, a big THANKS to Tom Hooper > Jo

My uncle (my late Mom's brother) and his family gave me an Amazon gift card for Christmas, and could not figure out what to get with it, so I just decided to buy the book! At the latest, I should be getting it by this time next week! >

I have just listened (twice!) to Michael Ball's cover of SUDDENLY (which he recorded with Claude Michel Schonberg -- with a lovely and simple piano accompaniment initially and then stronger orchestrations later on, after not having worked with him in a studio since they originated Les Miserables in London together almost 28 years ago). Hugh's version, as Michael says, is very explicit to the movie and its storyline - the lullaby theme. Michael chose to give it a more romantic hue! As someone said, it could actually work very well as a wedding song!
Both versions slay me!!
I CANNOT understand how the Oscar voters can prefer the highly repetitive and not even strongly delivered SKYFALL to the richly emotional and melodic SUDDENLY. I think SKYFALL won on pure hype and because they wanted to honor the Bond series on its 50th anniversary! I wish Universal or whoever spent a lot more time and attention on SUDDENLY!

Jo Jo, I completely agree with you about SKYFALL. We had the closed captioning on, so I was able to read the lyrics as they were being sung. I definitely would not have considered the song to be Oscar-worthy. I think this may have been yet another preordained award - the voters could not have really listened to these songs. I look forward to hearing Michael Ball's interpretation of SUDDENLY. I'm sure I'll enjoy it; Michael is a long-time favorite of mine. Carol

The BluRay or DVD etc is being released in the UK on May 13.
From the Amazon.co.uk Page --
It was very good timing for me - a good friend from the UK to whom I have previously given a copy of the CSR way back then is celebrating her birthday in mid-May!
In case anyone is interested about the UK release?

Looking forward to hearing Michael's version though. Sue

The movie is still showing down the street at the discount cinema. It's been there for a week and I just noticed that they've increased the daily showings from 3 to 4. It's a place where a lot of retirees and senior citizens on limited incomes attend movies.

It's interesting that my comment as "Jamie" under the review was made several days ago but is only appearing now. The review captured what anyone who loves this work as book, stage, and film sees and exactly why it will last forever.

A lot of negativity coming out again as the BluRay/DVD release comes near - trolls are coming out in droves again on IMDB ;D
But it seems people are voting with their Place-order-clicks on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk -- the top editions of the release are both ranked # 3 on both bestseller lists, even if official release is not till a few days more in the USA and not till May in the UK.
